Question / Help Encoded video doesn't import correctly into editing software

I've been having this issue for a while now and haven't seen any solutions or found a good one myself. I had a work around but that doesnt work for my current project.

Basically, when I use OBS to capture to a file, the file is created and reads fine, albeit a bit stuttery in a video player (VLC etc) but when I import it into an editing package such as Premiere the video is a fraction of the length of the file and is a psychedelic mess of colour.

Before I was using another package to re-encode the file into another format, but now that isn't working.
Is this a codec issue I can fix somehow, has anyone else experienced this and how can I fix it?

Post an OBS log from the capture that results in an un-editable file. Also post a media info from the video file. If small enough, post the original video file (or capture a new one that has the same problem that is small enough to upload somewhere, anonfiles.com allows files up to 500MB, dropbox, mediafire, mega, etc also work).

The usual culprit is when Constant Frame Rate (CFR) is not enabled/on/yes. When CFR is disabled, practically no editors are able to handle the file. But you talked about corrupted colors, so I'm not sure this is it.

Another culprit is encoding in lossless mode (CRF=0). That really shouldn't be done for a bunch of reasons unless you really know what you're doing and are sure your video editor is compatible with it.

Another possibility is having Open GOP on. Editors can't handle this either, but then again, no one does it, as its not enabled in any preset or tune.

If none of these is the case, then we'll need more information.

Aha, checking the log it would appear that CFR was indeed switched off!
turning it on has solved the issue! Thank you, I've been struggling with this since I started using OBS!

You just saved me about 2-3hours of waiting on progress bars for every video.
