Question / Help Enabling iGPU = Blackscreen on startup

Hey guys,

I have the following comp specs:
i7 4770k @ 4.5 GHZ
MSI Z87 GD65
8 GB 2666 ram
GTX 560 (going to replace this later for maybe 980Ti to use NVENC)

Win 7 Professional

Streaming for Twitch
OBS is awesome especially when I use Intel Quicksync for streaming on Twitch.tv, the only problem is after installing the drivers.
When it loaded up and I have streamed to twitch.tv without any problems and it was awesome and I wanted to use this for recording other games and streaming aswell.

Problem = Blackscreen and sometimes followed by a Restart
System boots up fine with iGPU enabled, and after installing drivers it works fine for using Quicksync. However now every restart the computer does either of the following:
1) After windows logo goes black and is active
2) After windows logo goes black followed by restart

The only way I have been able to resolve this is by disabling the iGPU either from BIOS or going into safe mode and then disabling it from device manager.

From my limited knowledge, I am thinking its a driver confliction, but I don't know how to fix this.

Has anyone come accross this issue? Is there any solution?

I would appreciate any advice you guys can give me, thank you.

Mas

OBS cannot capture something that's on another adapter, that's why. This will happen if OBS is on one adapter and a game or whatever you want to capture is on another.

Thanks for the reply Jim.

OBS has worked for me though?

It has worked with this method if enabling quicksync for local recording and steaming on twitch with very good quality.

Since I have switched to nvidia from amd 7970 I have had this issue only on startup (black screen followed by sometimes restsrting)

The only solution to this was for me to disable the Intel graphics adapter in safe mode.
Reboot: enable it in windows and then I get an nvidia driver error.

Works flawlessly.

Disable it before turning off computer.

The problem only occurs when booting into windows when both devices are enabled.

It works so well with OBS for quicksync which is why I'm trying to solve this issue.

There is a guide somewhere on these forums that I have followed for enabling the igpu for the use of quicksync.

It has recently started doing this and I don't know why.

See if you can set your PCI-E card to be the default or "first" graphics adapter in the Bios. So Windows will always start on that card. Maybe also disconnect everything from the iGPU, so Monitors are only connected to the Nvidia card.
Then, if necessary, use the fake connect a monitor option that is linked in the "How to use QuickSync guide" you mentioned :)
I can only think that sometimes your desktop starts on the iGPU and hence you get a black screen and maybe also the crashes, and sometimes it starts on the nvidia chip maybe!?

Dear Jack0r,

When I install Intel Graphics Drivers, should I install the software aswell or the drivers only?

I am wondering if they conflict or something.

Everything is connected to the Nvidia Card only, nothing is connected to the iGPU. I have that fake monitor thing done.

I have tried setting primary display as pci-e, doesnt seem to do anything.

Is there like a Bluescreen or error file maybe I could upload to further assist diagnosing this or?

Many thanks for your replies

I normall just install the full Intel package, so far I havent had similar problems (on 3 different systems). Currently I can only think that it triggers a bug specific to your Hardware. See if your Bios is on the latest version, make sure you have the latest intel and nvidia drivers (possibly no beta drivers).
If nothing works you could contact your Mainboard Manufacturer if there is a known problem :/
