Question / Help Elgato HD 60 Desync Issue

Hello. I am having an issue that when I stream with my Elgato HD 60 + webcam/overlay, then the elgato slowly falls behind the webcam for some reason. Using the most recent version of OBS with the new drivers for the HD60.

PC Specs are: Intel i5 processor, and Nvidia GTX 970 gfx card.

My settings are standard: x.264 enable CBR+padding, 3500 bitrate, non custom buffer, AAC Stereo 48khz 160 bitrate.
720p, 60 fps. I didn't used to have this problem, but around the time of when I updated the drivers it started to fall behind the webcam. I'm just using the standard settings for when the Elgato is put into the source. If anyone can help figure out why the Elgato is dragging behind, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mitchell.

Hi,

Please make sure the HD60 is a global source, and that in the HD60 source properties, buffering is checked and set to 1.

I did that and I'm still having issues. Any other suggestions?
Post your log file from the help menu:

https://gist.github.com/25f59455b15c97af4452 it shows no buffering on the Elgato because I was messing around with it. Same thing was happening when I set it up how you said.
If you set the buffering to 1 and it sets itself to 10,000 then I think you might need to uninstall, reboot and reinstall the new software from elgato then go into OBS and resetup everything for the cap card.. this might be the case but the log shows you had either selected 0 buffer or 50000, which is what would happen if you put in there 5ms buffer.

https://gist.github.com/651575def7aa9a63b948 tried that AND adjusted some stuff in the elgato software. Still nothing :(
ok, the 1ms buffer is being enforced. Now we can start checking other things. raise scene buffering to 1000ms. also with your webcam, can you move it to a USB port away from the elgato? actually just put the elgato in a USB 3.0 port if you have one. Make sure the webcam is somewhere far away physically from the elgato. Last but not least, make sure the elgato and the web cam are global sources

One other issue not addressed before is this:
Code:
Total frames encoded: 1145, total frames duplicated: 78 (6.81%)

That is quite a few duplicate frames. your CPU might be borderline able to handle 720@60.

I've done this many times before and it's only recently started to act up. What would be some causes for duplicate frames?
I suggested many things, what do you mean you've tried this? duplicate frames is usually from to high of a resolution and/or fps and obs stutters for a second. less than 1% is typical since OBS might think its stuttering right at the start or maybe a frame during scene changes.

My apologies. I meant that I have been streaming for close to a year now, with these same settings, and have had no issues. 720p @60fps, with a capture card, webcam, and static image should be no problem for my rig. I don't even have to be live, in the sense that even just the preview stream or local recording will lag after about 10 minutes.

Well any software/drivers/updates/changed in settings could potentially affect OBS. often people install overlays such as overwolf or razer synapse, etc then end up with issues. so if I were you, I would think back what might have changed and post here your results.

the reason why I say all this is because your OBS is boorderline as it stands.

Another thing I noticed is that your audio formats dont all match. your snowball is at 44.1KHz, Elgato at 48KHz and OBS is at 48Khz. and you might have to check what windows defaults to by checking your playback devices.

Anyway, something else to check

OK well there was an update to the elgato software today. Didn't do anything to solve my issue unfortunately. I also changed all the audio to 44.1khz and didn't help :( I dunno but at this point don't know what to do.

When you update software. make sure you do a full uninstall, reboot, reinstall then reboot. Its annoying but sometimes works. Not sure what the new update was to address.

OK I think I MAY have figured it out. I changed some stuff in my BIOS, and tweaked one setting it seemed to work. in the BIOS I changed the setting from Default, to High Performance. I also disabled the quick boot up option and now it seems to be holding fine. Running some more tests tonight though.

Quick bootup just does a full memory diag instead of a quick POST. what did you change to high performance?

I've had issues after adjusting bootup settings before so I just tried that again here. There are 3 presets. Eco (quiet and cool but less performance), Default (balanced), and High Performance (loud and hot but runs the best). It seems to have helped my issue. I tested it for about an hour and no delay (usually happens within 5-10 minutes), and it wasn't until I left it in preview stream for over 2 hours before it started to chug, and even then it was only minor. I know that's not the best idea but I was trying to stress it in order to see what would happen.
