Question / Help Elgato and OBS

Hey, I just bought an Elgato Game Capture HD, and been trying to get it to work with OBS now.

However, it keeps saying that there's no signal in the preview, and I can't change the input device to PS3 from the settings because it's blacked out. I can't also see any game footage from my TV.

What's the problem here?

Apologies if you have already tried this, but it's always worth a mention.

Update the Elgato drivers to 1.22.22 if you haven't already.
Add the device to OBS in the usual way (Add Video Capture Device)
While the preview is active right click the device and click properties
Click the configure button (Cannot stress enough that this will only work when the preview is running)
An Elgato Game Capture HD config will pop up, Change "Input Device" to PS3
Change "Input" from HDMI to Component, Click Done and then OK
The PS3 should hopefully appear in OBS now and properly pass-through to your monitor.

Done this already.

Code:
An Elgato Game Capture HD config will pop up, Change "Input Device" to PS3
Can't do this because the option is blacked out

Strange, the PS3 option isn't really important, are you able to at least change "input" from "HDMI" to "component"?

I've never had those options appear blanked out before.

No, I can't even do that. Everything is blacked out

I've never seen those options become blanked out before, Not really sure what to suggest.

Most I can say is try a fresh Elgato install, Apart from that I'm stumped.

Maybe someone else might know, Really Sorry :(

This is what I see... It shows that it's not even connected.
Although... I got the game footage to show with the program Elgato came with (Game Capture HD).

That means Elgatos capture filter can't find the device which is really strange since the main app works.

Since I've never encountered this before I did a quick search and Elgato recommends uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and Switching from one USB hub to another (Example: change from back usb ports to front, or from Usb 2.0 ports to Usb 3.0 ports)

If what I have said doesn't seem to help, Again I'm sorry and if you do figure out how to fix it posting it here for others to read would be pretty awesome :)

Yeah, I did both. And neither worked out :( *sigh*

Bump. Still haven't figured it out. Tried re-installing both OBS and Elgato drivers. Tried swapping USB ports... nothing

Hello.

I have this completely same problem. BUT I can confirm that it was working in the beginning. Then something happened and now everything is blank and inside OBS in "elgato settings" it cant detect the device.

edit:

So I get my video through but no audio.
Works fine in xsplit.

Just to make sure Do you have the A/V cables connected from PS3 to Elgato? HDMI wont work since PS3 uses HDCP (If you already knew this, just ignore)

And this really doesn't work for you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDLO53d86aI Someone mentioned this same thing earlier in this thread.
Yup, I use the A/V Cable. Remember, it works with Game Capture HD, just not with OBS.

And I did already looked that. Didn't work for me

Ooooooooh sorry i misunderstood the screenshot you posted earlier because i misread the last sentence. I thought it wasn't showing up even in it's own software. Sorry my bad.

hmmm okay. Have you tried the newest OBS 0.52?

Well they added support for it in around Q1'13 so it hasn't always been working in xsplit either

Btw..

Refrain from things like "But ____ can do it fine!"
  • In a majority of cases, this doesn't help with any problem in any way whatsoever and only serves to be annoying

Why I stated it works in xsplit is that we can narrow it down to OBS.

btw, relaa vähän

I'm sure they are working on it but might take a while since they have a lot of stuff to do.

Joo siis eihä toi mua haittaa mut siitä tullu välillä sanomista täälä :D

The Elgato Game Capture HD has been working fine for me since the very beginning, it still works fine for me on the latest stable release, just want to point it out that not everyone has this issue.

Yeah, i've read it works normally fine. I'm not sure what's wrong with my thing. I'm already questioning now my own PC about it if there's a driver conflict or something
