Question / Help Elgato and OBS sync issues

Hey all,

Been scratching my head on this one for a while and hoping someone here might have the answer for me.

Recently invested in an Elgato capture card,

There is about a 2-3 second delay from the live TV image to it being displayed in OBS. Not a problem, I just added a delay to my microphone and webcam image. The sound from the game is coming through the desktop, so also has a 2 second delay to match the video.

If I want to have a group chat on Skype during a co-op game and stream at the same time, my responses to Skype are going to be delayed by 2-3 seconds and cause a very noticeable sync problem. People will respond to questions as I'm asking them in the stream.

Obviously I cannot delay gloabl audio, as that will put the game audio out of sync.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately this is the limitation you have with USB 2.0 capture devices. You've already got everything in sync as best you can, working around the limits of such devices.

Matching desktop sounds in the current version of OBS with a delayed device is problematic -- I will have it fixed in upcoming versions but currently trying to match skype up to your USB 2.0 device is difficult, and it is OBS' fault that the option doesn't currently exist in this version.

I own an ElGato and my settings have always been 1600ms for my mic delay to match the ElGato delay. Not sure if that really helps but pretty much every time i had to set a delay for my mic to match my ElGato game play was 1600ms.

I can get it all in sync, but after awhile the mic goes out of sync, and then the audio of the game goes out of sync. It is so frustrating. Looks like the x-capture 1 might be my only hope .

Yeah, the XCapture-1 is an exceptionally good device. USB 2.0 devices just can't cut it
