Question / Help Elgato and OBS question

So I borrowed an elgato from a friend to try and record PC gaming. I built a basic second PC (core2duo, 4g Ram, etc) to capture the stream and run OBS on. The second PC has just the onboard GPU (Intel Q45), but I figured this was not an issue, since I won't be using that to capture, I would be using the elgato.

I added the elgato global source, but OBS will not let me start, saying it could not initialize DirectX 10 on Intel Q45/Q43 Express Chipset.

Again, I'm not capturing using that gfx card.. is there any way to disable it so I can use the elgato to capture?

OBS uses the graphics card for compositing, scaling, and color conversion. Currently, it required DirectX 10, which that particular graphics chipset doesn't support. In the future, we will have OpenGL rendering support which should allow it to work with those particular devices, but it's still some time away.

Jim it has been more than an year for OBS to update and for it to support other graphics cards. I currently have the same issue as deranjer. So, what are you going to do about this problem?

Even if the compatibility was added, there is little to no chance that (for example the Q45 chipset aka fastest processor being an old q9650) would be able to record or stream very well. Other's that have tried with similar CPUs (with dedicated GPUs) often cap out around 360p @ 25fps.

Lastly, please dont dig up old threads that are not being kept up on. Not that I have checked, but have you tried OBS MP version for windows?

OBS is not gonna support older graphics cards which don't even have proper DirectX 10 support.

Well, Osiris I downloaded DirectX 10 as it said to and well it still doesn't work. So, is your answer going to be the same for this problem as well?

If your GPU doesn't support DirectX10 (fully) installing DirectX 10 software isn't going to change anything.

Well I tried OBS Multi platform recently and well, let's just say it's a bit buggy. So, aside from that do I just have to wait until a OBS verison for Intel Q45/Q43 comes out?

Well at least could someone answer my question? Would NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT work with OBS?
the 9600GT has DX10 but i have been unable to find the "feature level" of the 9600GT, which can be different. the feature level is what is important. I will say that you can give it a try, but will promise nothing. There is no chart out there that shows a per GPU feature level of DX10 unfortunately
I will say this:
DirectX 10 was released on November 30, 2006
9600GT was released on February 21, 2008 which means the feature level could very well be present.

Well, would a NVIDIA GeForce GT 9800 work with OBS then? Because, I am planning to buy a 9800 now since 9600 don't really work with OBS.

WHY ARE WE STILL TALKING ABOUT GT 9800 CARDS? THE CARD IS 7 YEARS OLD.

Get something more recent plz. Will save you a lot of hassle.

Hes right, get a cheap DX11 card and you'll be set. as long as your motherboard has a 8x or 16x PCIE slot you'll be alright. but just a fair warning, that old core2duo will limit what you can encode to the point around 480p 30fps even for local recording, even after the better GPU. you are fighting an up hill battle and since you now have all the info we can provide, I am going to request a locked thread.

Once you get simi new hardware for your recording rig, we can proceed with helping you.
