Dynamic text overlay ?

Hello, I have searched all along this forum and couldn't get the answer I'm looking for... So sorry if it was already posed and answer...

For what I need to do on my youtube / twitch channel I need to be abble to quickly put “scores“ on the screen.
Just like in a footbal game on TV. I want to be abble to set the score on screen. I know you can do it with text layers, but I can't really go back on each layer that compose my scene to find each layer of text and then change and display this new score. This switching is source of error and way too long to do.

And, in my case those scores can be complex. Multi scores, additions of different scores ... and so on.
It's not like a football score : 10-24 for exemple.
No ... My score can be composed of 4 different elements wich combined give a general score.

The best way for me would be tu use an Excel datasheet, and to be abble to tell obs to get the text to display form this file, in a scpecific cell...
So can OSB create a text layer from a “link“ or “hyperlink“ as a source (not a text file). This source would be an excel file or a hosted file ... so I would add and change the score in my excel file, and the data would adjust themselves in my layer in obs ?

I hope my explaination are clear enough...
Thx by advance.

actually, a similar feature exists in Livestream studio and vMix where a CSV or XML is imported (and updated live) to the studio software which is interpreted as rows and columns to display on the overlay.

I can't believe with all the power of the community here it hasn't been done already.

After reading about your query, I have come to the point that you are dealing with the Excel cells overlapping issue. So without wasting any more time, use the Excel Format Cells Option.

  • Choose the excel cells in which you are facing this cells overlapping issues.
  • From the excel ribbon select Format Cells.
  • In the Format Cells dialog box, tap to the Alignment option. From the horizontal option drop down choose the Fill button.
  • Hit the OK button.
Now none of your data present in the selected cells spill over another cell.

I think there are score board type plugins available. You might want to search around. But if you want to do it yourself. Create a jpeg of your score board. In the holes where the score would be make it black, color = 0,0,0. In obs use a chomakey plugin, set to custom color and set to black - 0,0,0. This puts a hole - transparent area where the layer underneath shows through. The next layer down is a text layer. obs will update this layer anytime it changes. It's always doing file watch and when a file changes for any reason, it will update the text layer. So just format your new score to fit under the holes in the scoreboard layer. You can do this with your own excel app (maybe) or make a custom web app. Hope that helps

Did you ever find a good solution for this? I run a live program that has many titles with LOTS of data points that sometimes need to change on-the-fly. Having titles centrally managed in a Google or Excel spreadsheet would be HUGE. I currently do it in Livestream Studio, but I *really* dislike that software and am hoping to make the switch to OBS... But this is a key feature that I must figure out before I can fully commit to OBS.

Have you checked out Google Sheets for scoring?
You can use it to import data from other pages and format it with your style and green screens to overlay it . Then crop it to the size and shape you want …
