Question / Help Dual PC Streaming Questions! :P

Hey guys.

OK so, here is my question.

Im interested in setting up a dual pc streaming system... I have alot of the components already, i just have some questions about how certain things would/should work, before I invest ya know?

Current PC
15 3570k @ 4.2ghz
660TI
16gb of Ram
750W PSU
Logitech G35 Headset (This is a USB Headset)
Thats the nitty gritty.

"To-Be" Streaming PC
Q6700 (have this)
8gb of ram (have this)
Avermedia Live Gamer HD (Need to buy)

To buy the rest of the parts for my stream rig, I just need the microatx Case, mobo, and PSU ad Cap Card. $400 est.

What im curious about is how would the Sound get forwarded, is there anything simpler than VAC?

Or anything you guys think I may be missing?

My goal is to stream 1080p @24/30fps with 3500 Bitrate, I can handle this, however I want it to be crystal clear, and not get pixely when multiple things happen on stream.

My stream is www.twitch.tv/Srixun to see current quality.

And also, if there is a solution outside of a 2nd PC to stream, that would be great also. I looked at some of the USB Cap cards, but I heard the quality isnt so great.

You can use nvenc with a crazy high bitrate, like 30Mbit/s, and setup an nginx-rtmp on the other machine, and stream from OBS to that nginx-rtmp, which then uses ffmpeg or some other utility to transcode to 1080p30 with the best possible quality the cpu can handle at 3.5Mbit/s.

What you have to keep in mind is that you are more or less just offloading the work to the second pc. On a q6700 I am not sure you will be able to change the quality by any means. You will probably have to run the same preset and settings as on your main PC.
To increase the quality you would want to get a powerful CPU in the streaming PC to add a lot of compression.

For Audio you have several options, Y-Adapter, Soundcards, Mixer or VAC. Just depends on what you want to do.

The Audio just gets streamed via OBS as usual, unless you want to do something fanzy that required an external hardware mixer.

What other suggestions do you have for getting alot better quality in the stream then? Im not trying to blow $1000 on a new rig for a hobby. :P ya know? any suggestions would be awesome :)

If you just use OBS on the main computer, you don't have to forward anything, it just streams it to the other machine as usual.

Before you buy a capture card, you should check to see if this: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6757 is a viable solution for you. How you get the stream to your second computer using this method should depend on the game and whether its CPU or GPU bound on your game computer. If GPU-bound, use CPU encoding (normal software OBS or Quicksync), if CPU-bound, use NVEnc.

Personally I use a capture card and split the audio (analog 3.5mm fronts) with a y-adapter, one end going to my headset as usual, the other going to the line-in on the sound card of my encoding PC. Other people use HDMI to carry the audio, when that's supported on their capture card.

I do think that your encoding PC doesn't have that strong of a CPU. It may be able to off-load the encoding from your gaming PC, but it probably won't be able to produce any higher quality encoding. You'd be just as well off just using Quicksync directly from your gaming PC. You need to upgrade your encoding PC or not use it at all:

nvenc does not cause any gpu load, so it's allways the best option with the lowest possible impact for high-bitrate encoding.

Ok, So it seems its a lost cause.

Im really curious as to tweaking my PC settings then... my OBS settings. Ill look for some guides when I have time.
