Double audio input with turtle beach 4 pole 3.5mm headset. Mic/Aux Audio Input Capture source is picking up Mic AND desktop audio from headset.

Using a Turtle Beach Earforce X11 headset with a dual-plug-to-single-4-pole Y-adaptor in the dual-function mic/headset 3.5mm port on my laptop. Problem is, when you plug up, the computer automatically allocates the mic and audio to the port. Creating a problem that makes OBS treat the port as auxiliary input as well as mic. So my game, chat and any other audio output is also being treated as input, any sound output is being additionally treated as input through the mic/aux--audio input capture source. This creates distorted sound and overlapping voices and sounds during from streams and recordings. I apologize if I've been a bit redundant/repetitive, but it is a very specific issue and I don't want it to be confused with other, similar-sounding-but-not-quite-the-same issues. I have tried every combination and attempt I can think of and nothing is fixing this problem. The only temporary fix I have come up with is to unplug the adaptor and plug in the headphone jack only, but then I have to use the integrated laptop microphone and the turtle beach mic is useless. There are no settings to separate these that I can find. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

2 possibilities of what's happening
- your X11 has a reverse bleed-over from sidetone (aka live mic monitoring)
- your laptop and X11 don't work well with a common ground (capacitive feedback)

Most likely it's the 2nd one, but just to be sure, make sure you turn off any sidetone options you may have on your headset.

If it persists, then your only other real solution would be to get a USB audio dongle with separate in/out jacks.

Thanks for your reply! And thanks for the information. I will definitely check into these and see if they could be causing the issue. Note: The headset does in fact have live mic monitoring, but it does not have an option to turn it off I don't think. However, it isn't only microphone sound issues, it's the whole game sounding glitchy. If we can post links, here is a stream I uploaded where you can hear it: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/810038861 .
Are you saying it will do this with active mic feedback for game output sounds as well when recording audio?

A USB Dongle adaptor sounds like it might solve the problem completely, but I would like to know for sure exactly what this is. It sounds like you know more than I do about the common ground plugs and active mic monitoring, so I will take your advice in my search!

Thanks again! And sorry for the delay, I thought I would get an email when I got a reply but I must have missed it.

Also it is important to note that the earphones sound clear as day when using it, and the mic from others' perspective sounds clear as day. I only notice this problem when watching the recording/streaming through OBS. I have only just realized I failed to mention that in my original post. I have not tried a different software yet.
