Question / Help Does OBS black out copyrighted videos?

I'm trying to make a gif of something on Netflix with the Display Capture but the video only captures the Netflix overlay and the rest of the desktop. Does OBS automatically detect copyright and black it out?

No, but your browser has DRM built into it which prevents capture of it.

Alright. Just changed browser that I was recording on, worked now.

If they want to be able to play Netflix, yes. In any case, we don't support bypassing protections for copyrighted content.
