Question / Help Desktop audio cuts off when OBS is open.

The instant I open OBS, all audio cuts off, and it cannot record sound. I have bluetooth headphones, and sometimes I have to reopen a program to hear audio again for some reason, but that hasn't worked here. My desktop and mic have worked perfectly before, but just this morning my computer blanked and I had to delete all files and basically restore it to factory mode. Once I redownloaded OBS to record a video, all sound cut off. Nowadays I record without a mic, but that wasn't an issue before my computer blanked.

If your audio is muting when you launch OBS, and you're using a Bluetooth headset, it's caused by the underlying design of Bluetooth.

Bluetooth headsets typically have 2 modes, stereo audio (A2DP), and headset (HFP - Hands Free Profile). These two profiles have separate audio devices on the computer side.

When you have OBS set to activate a Bluetooth headset's microphone, that causes the headset to automatically switch to HFP mode, as A2DP is a lower priority. The reason your audio mutes is because it's still being sent to the A2DP device instead of the HFP device.

To fix this, you either switch to a wired headset, don't use the Bluetooth headset's mic, or set your sound to go through the HFP device for your headset.

Note: HFP offers lower sound quality.

So what I did to fix this was go into my audio settings and define where to send the audio

to review

Start>sound settings>sound>app volume and device preferences, and it works for my sony wh-xb900ns

I have the same problem and yours solutions works. You can not turn off your PC just leave OBS running in the background if you turn off scenes in OBS it will be costs less processor and memory consumption. For me also works turn off BT on the headphones or operating system, then turn on OBS, then again turn on BT.

If someone found a better solution, please reply

Just disable your bluetooth headset mic under the "recording" tab in the sound control panel: Right-click the sound icon in you taskbar>Open sound settings>Sound control panel>Recording, it should be right there. I had the same problem everytime I opened OBS, until I just disabled the headset's mic and now it works just fine.

There is a very easy solution to this problem if you're using a bluetooth headset:

Go To: Settings > Audio
Under Global Audio Devices set Desktop Audio to your headset.

This completely fixed the issue for me.

Open Sound Settings by right clicking the speaker in the task tray.
Click Manage Sound devices. FInd you bluetooth device. There should be two. One of them should read Hands-Free AG Audio
If you see that device disable it. Now you can use BT and OBS

The drastic option is to downgrade to V25 or less. I didn't have this problem in v25
