Question / Help Desktop audio and external mic (headset) audio doesn't transfer when recording or streaming

Hey all. I'm brand new to recording and streaming, so please bear with me.
Ever since I downloaded OBS, I simply cannot get the audio to come through when recording or streaming. Even after installing the newest updates, it won't work whatsoever. I've looked everywhere and have yet to come across anyone else having this problem.
I really just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I greatly appreciate any and all help I can get.

Post a logfile from the Help menu. We really do need it to be able to help. Why it asks for one any time a new thread is opened in Q&H.

If you're playing back a video and get no sound, most commonly it's because of Windows Media Player. Download VLC instead; it's a much better video player that handles the audio codecs correctly. If your videos still have no sound being played back with VLC, make sure to post a logfile and we'll see what's happening. :)
