hi, I just got OBS because I wanted to stream dark souls, I managed to set everything up and it works fine with the witcher 2, however, when I try to stream dark souls, the game will crash every time I press preview or start stream without fail. Does anyone know what the problem is and how I can fix it? it's the prepare to die edition on steam if anyone needs to know. thanks in advance.

Do you use any kind of overlay or dsfix? These can prevent Game Capture from properly hooking. If you want to use them, you'll have to capture DarkSouls using Sfotware Capture.

Don't use game capture with dsfix. Instead, set dsfix to run dark souls in borderless window mode, and then use window capture on dark souls (with aero on). It's comparable performance.

Weird, Dark Souls doesn't crash for me when using dsfix (including the FPS unlocker) with 'game capture'. The only crash I had was one about 20 minutes after I had minimized the client, which is quite irrelevant.

Performance was comparable to Dxtory + XSplit though; ie. not that good (35-50 FPS), despite having FAR lower CPU/GPU usage (Xsplit is a massive hog). Gonna have to try that borderless window mode and see how that goes. I tend to avoid windowed applications due to performance loss, even with only a single GPU.

Still, really wish I knew why certain games run poorly even though my CPU/GPU usage is not high at all, even with the games dedicated to actual cores.

Edit: Well, nevermind that. It's stretching the 1080p window to fit 1920x1200; can't run in windowed mode unless I find a way to add blackness around the client instead of stretching it.

I just started streaming Dark Souls (using dsfix) today and I had the same problem with game capture.
However, after looking around on the steam forum I found out that it's actually the steam overlay that is crashing the game.
Just tried streaming Dark Souls (with dsfix) with steam overlay disabled and it worked perfectly with game capture.

How to disable steam overlay for just Dark Souls:
In steam, go to your library, right click on Dark Souls, click on properties, untick "enable steam community in-game".

Yeah, I couldn't even get Dark Souls to run with dsfix, not even trying to stream it. The Steam overlay is definitely throwing a wrench into everything and disabling it makes everything work.

That must be why.

I hadn't used the Steam overlay (due to performance issues with it) until recently after discovering the Ubiquitous chat tool.

I do not stream with OBS though as my ingame performance is much worse, so even after enabling the overlay I've still been able to stream just fine. After reading this update it looks like XSplit's own gamesource thing doesn't have a problem with dsfix+steam like OBS' game capture.

There's still work to be done in regards to Dark Souls with OBS (lower performance), so I hope this issue will get resolved in the future.
