Hi, i recently started up my own stream "twitch.tv/mvpstabby" i finally got my ISP to sort there stuff out and give me the upload speed i was paying for, now at 11mb, after setting up my stream to where i think it looks great and all is fine, i try a few tests and see there is some nasty stuttering in the video and the recordings.

When i'm streaming, in certain situations on CSGO and other fps type games my CPU maxes out, i mean right up to 100% and boom stutter...

I really don't want to lose the quality i have it at, as i'm sure you know watching an fps game at 30fps is well... aids. I want to keep it 60fps 720p but also need to reduce the CPU usage. there are plenty of settings i have no clue about on OBS i'm hoping in there somewhere i can reduce CPU and hopefully not lose to much quality.

This is where you lovely dears come in! i'm just gonna stick a list of info i know below here and hope someone can help me out.

INFOZ!
CPU - I5 2500k, 3.3ghz (would rather not OC)
GFX - GTX 560 TI
RAM - 4gb 1800mhz DDR3
MOBO - P8Z68-V
UPLOAD - 11.4mb
DOWNLOAD - 40mb

You mite be able to go and look at the stutter yourself on the twitch page? im not sure. Below are some nudes... of my OBS and all the settings that mite make some difference? also i will add in the last log file from OBS.

If you know how to fix this rather annoying issue pop it down for me i will be grateful! ps. follow me!

Thank you!

Awesome to know! :P

Yea i kinda already new that, i'm trying to find out if there is away to sort or help my problem without doing those exact things. Like i literately said so in the post.

If anyone else who knows more about the many settings in OBS knows away to reduce CPU usage.

Help a brother out.

Or try 30fps, if you want better fps and resolution for your recordings/streams, you'll have to upgrade.

If you're hitting 100% CPU usage with your current settings then either your PC needs to do more work or you need to give it less work to do. If you want your CPU to do more work you'll need to overclock it or replace it with something faster. If you want to give it less work to do (and you've either enabled vsync or capped CS:GO's frame rate at something reasonable via the fps_max cvar) then you need to lower your stream resolution, frame rate, or preset. Using something like NVENC or Quick Sync would also reduce CPU load at the cost of quality.

my rig is
CPU - I7 4790k, 4.0ghz
GFX - GTX 750 TI
RAM - 8gb
MOBO - asus sabertooth 97 mark 2
UPLOAD - 16mb
DOWNLOAD - 90mb

it's still hitting 80%-100% usage on cs:go
im told that i should be able to hit 1080p 60fps, but i cant even do 720 at 60 fps.

Have you tried to disable window capture?

i didn't touch that option. all i have is a video capture device. Is it automatically disabled if you never added it to you sources? I'm new to obs and i just got this a couple of days ago. Also I don't run a dual pc setup. I run stream and csgo on the same pc. Thank you.

Yes. If you haven't added it to sources, it's same as disabled.

That indeed doesn't sound normal with that kind of a rig.. Could you post a link to your log??

In OBS: Help --> Log Files --> Upload last Log File --> copy and paste the link here.

I've done some researching and what I found was that with 4790K you should be able to stream at 720p60 or 1080p30 easily.

Next time, open task manager and look which programs uses your cpu mostly while you're streaming.

Tab - General ----> Process Priority Class ---> Select Above Normal . 85% will solve your problem

+ downscaling taxes cpu. try not to downscale and lower your max bitrate so your isp can handle the resolution

  • Recommended bitrate for 1080p: 3000-3500
  • Recommended bitrate for 720p: 1800-2500

That will just make OBS take CPU over anything else in the system. It won't reduce CPU usage at all.

i would rather suggest godagun opening his own thread and writing down his problem + posting a log file :) would be way easier for everyone
