Question / Help Control Audio via OBS

Okay. I'm running into a situation and haven't really seen any fixes or alternatives in search.

I'm currently setting up to do a Live Stream from website that has a video running with audio on the website.

I've set up the Browser Source to get the both the Video and Audio from said website into OBS. But the problem is coming from the audio side of things. When I Tick the box for 'Control Audio via OBS', the audio meter is clearly reading/hearing the audio, but I personally don't hear anything whatsoever, despite what the audio meter is showing. Now when I untick the box, I can hear the audio, but now the audio meter isn't reading/hearing the same audio.

I figured I would do a workaround and just have enable the Desktop Audio Device 1 to give myself a audio meter that shows/hears the audio and will in fact push out with the Stream. But, I knew I would run into problems here. Since I'm using the audio for desktop, I'm not able to listen to the stream end of things to see how it comes out visually as well as auditory. If I do listen to the stream, this is of course going to create a wall of sound.

So, is there a workaround that I'm just not seeing that will solve this problem. I've also tried all the Advance Settings for audio Monitor Off, Monitor Only (Mute Output) and Output and those don't have any bearing either.

Thanks in advance.

If you check "control audio with OBS" it means the audio from the browser source is handled internally by OBS. To hear that you'd have to turn on monitoring, and specify a monitoring device in Settings > Audio.

Does not work for me. Already tried that.

Can you please screenshot your advanced audio properties screen (accessible in the Edit menu) and the Audio screen in Settings > Audio ?

This method works, but I have another problem that I record sounds in different tracks, when I turn on this monitor, the sound of the browser falls on my main sound.
And I don't want this because I'm recording, I don't want the sound of this browser to be on my recording

I'm also having a problem with the audio, but mine won't come out, I'll follow up if anyone has a solution

I fixed mine by doing the following
Remade the entire alert thing from scratch > didn't work
Audio Monitorin > Monitor and Output - didn't work
Switched out the monitor to system default > apply > switch back to what you want to monitor with > apply > restart OBS (ran with admin just incase) - works

Hope it helps

My monitoring device was a headset I don't use for some reason, thats why I couldn't hear it! I set it to default.

Solved a ~48 hour problem for me, thank you.

CHECK YOUR MONITORING DEVICE, PEOPLE!

My solution for this exact scenario is to uncheck/disable windows audio ducking in the audio section of OBS. Screenshot is attached. This was the last thing that worked for me (I was specifically having issues with mixitup sounds showing meter in the audio mixer but I could not hear them (even though stream could). ALSO, i was already on Monitor & Output before anyone points it out.

I did all of the other recommendations which i included below if people are struggling for fixes:

1. Go into OBS advance audio mixer and change the affected sources to monitor (mute output). Then close OBS. Open again and change everything back to Monitor & Output. A bug can cause this to be a solution for some people.

2. Go into Audio Advanced and check your monitoring device. What device is currently receiving audio? I've read that most people have luck leaving it at default.

3. If you have windows 11, click your quick sound settings (typically bottom right of screen) and scroll down to make sure OBS audio is NOT muted.

4. Double check your default sounds settings. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and sound > Sound. Change playback to your headset or speaker of choice and set default. Go to Recording and set it to your mic of choice as default.

For context, i just switched from a laptop to a PC and was able to back up OBS and keep settings to the new PC (only had to change location on sources). So, if you also are having issues after a new computer, consider checking all of your OBS settings first, they all reset when you re-download and I see that tends to be where the pain starts. :)
