Question / Help Complete fool trying to figure this out

Hey there fellow streamers and technicians,

I have been thinking about streaming for a long time and after watching some tutorials and following some guides I decided to give it a go. Being the genius that I am with computers and not being a native speaker sort of resulted in my attempts being a failure. My goal is to deliver a quality stream at preferably 720p/1080p which with my 10 mb/s should not be a problem bandwithwise.

However I am convinced that my pc is in need of 1 or 2 upgrades and I would like to know where the struggles begin because outside of my games everything is ok and seems reasonably high quality but inside everything goes to shit. Now I am not worried about spending money but I would like to spend it on the right parts so I am looking for someone who can tell me where the bottleneck lies within my pc.

The other option is of course that my settings are completly and utterly fubar in which case I need someone who can get sort of guide me on how to get it right or do it for me.

I am willing to let you use teamviewer to help me out but even so I understand that this could take a while. Therefore I am sure we can work out some sort of a reward of sorts if you are willing to put the time in to help me with my problem.

Thank you so much for your quick reply, this is the content of the log that recorded everything I did during my test. At some points I was trying to add a webcam and towards the end I was in game but the stream caused slight lag so I turned it off.

well you could use quicksync with 1080@30 fps and 3k bitrate for twitch

or you could go without quicksync and use something like 720@30or48 fps also with something between 2500-3000bitrate

hardware wise you should be fine with ingame and streaming performance. quicksync would almost take all the load away of your system

Get rid of Monitor Capture, enable Aero and use Window Capture and play your game in borderless windowed mode, or use Game Capture (which also works while the game is in fullscreen, usually). Your hardware should absolutely not be holding you back here, you should pretty easily be able to do 700p(because you are downscaling from a 16:10 monitor) @ 30/60fps with that CPU/GPU combo.

Which game are you trying to stream?

May consider looking into some slight overlocking, you should be able to get to 4.0ghz on that CPU just by changing the muliplier and not have to mess with any voltages or anything.

I have seen 2 possible problems. You have 4gb ram. I recommend at least 8 gb nowadays. Also you stream at a non 16:9 format (probably the screen you are using isn't 16:9) which in my experience causes a bit more blur when you are down scaling.

RAM doesn't really affect stream quality. But even so, he's running the 32bit version of OBS, which will only ever show a maximum of 4GB of RAM, so it's possible he has more, though the 32bit version of OBS can't utilize it.

Also, aspect ratio has nothing to do with how blurry the video gets when you downscale.

I actually have 16, does this mean I should download the 64 bit version?
What happens if I set the bitrate higher?
Thanks for the other tips its mostly for League and DayZ atm.

The 64bit version will give you a very small performance improvement, so it's worth using if you can.

If you're streaming on Twitch, you'll not want to stream above 3500kbps. Higher bit rate will give you higher picture quality, at the cost of making it harder for viewers with slower download speeds to watch.

Definitely ditch Monitor Capture. It blows under Win7, should only be considered a very last resort, and can actually be so bad it causes in-game lag. Use Window or Game Capture, with Aero ON.
Yes, using the 64-bit version (should already be installed if you have W7-64, as a subdirectory under the main OBS install) is recommended; a slight speed bump if nothing else, and the ability to use more memory if it's needed.

Also, it's strongly recommended that you not exceed 2000kbps unless you're partnered (and thereby have the transcode options available for lower-bandwidth viewers); it usually will result in very choppy video performance otherwise. 2000kbps is enough to run 720p@45fps with quite decent quality.
