If you can route that one program's audio to a specific audio device, that will work.

To refresh this old but very important thread: I have been using EarTrumpet for a couple month and it is great! It will allow you to direct a specific application's audio to a specific output. There is a copy in the windows app store but also a git project:

Thank you, not only found a way to record audio only from one program in obs but no more going into volume mixer to adjust the volume of one app.
Once again, THANK YOU!

I'm pretty sure you can do something similar to this in base windows. right click the sound button and then open volume mixer. It can't route things to another audio source though (to my knowledge).

I'm hoping to find a plugin which can allow me to capture audio from a specific application... Until I find it, this is my current solution:

Background: I don't want to capture all audio from my computer in case a random notification plays or I mistakenly open a Chrome tab with audio. I *just* want to capture audio from my music player (Spotify for this example). To do this, I need to get Spotify playing on it's own volume mixer in OBS.

Required software: Voicemeeter

Steps:
1. Start Spotify
2. Open "Sound settings" in the crappy Windows 10 settings app
3. Click on "App volume and device preferences" below "Advanced sound options"
4. To the right of the Spotify logo and currently playing song name, set the top box (Output) to the VoiceMeeter Input
5. Open Voicemeeter
6. Set A1 (in the upper-right corner) to your physical speakers/headphones
7. Ensure A (physical output) and B (virtual output) are selected under Virtual Input
8. Either add the Voicemeeter audio as a Mic global source or an Audio capture device in OBS
9. Profit

Additional: I just learned about the Audio Monitor plugin which might make this even nicer.
