Question / Help Cant get gameplay to show up

Hello everyone, I'm trying to stream with an Elgato on OBS. I'm really enjoying the software so far but I only have one problem. When I go to preview my stream it gives me the message "the device is in use by another application". I'm not sure why it is saying this, because the gameplay from my elgato is on screen on the game capture app, but when I preview it shows me the text i just mentioned. I'm also 100% positive that I have the latest version of the game capture software, i've seen a couple of others having this problem so i'd like to know if there is a solution. All of my setting are solid as well, so i'm not sure what the problem is. Any help is much much much appreciated, Thanks!

You cannot use the elgato in OBS while the elgato program is open. I may have misunderstood but you made it sound like that may have been what you were doing.

Thank you for the response, but yes i have the program open. do I just minimize it, or does the program have to be completely closed?

Okay so I understand now, obs runs the software by itself, but i'm still having one issue if you would try to help. The problem i'm having now is that when i go to configure, the window comes up for Elgato where i can select my console and my input, but all of the settings are blacked out and I can't change any of the options for some reason. The default system is xbox one, so thats why my ps3 isn't being detected.

That particular dialog will only work while the preview/stream is active. It can't be used if the device isn't active.

I have the preview/stream option active but it wont let me do it for some reason, i've only seen one other person have this problem with obs and elgato. So it must be a rare thing.

This is what i'm doing, I click "preview stream" then I see the No Signal screen in the preview window, then I go to configure so I can change the system to my ps3, the Elgato window comes up so that I can change my system (on my elgato settings in the game capture software, I have it set to ps3) and it's set to xbox one and I cant change it. I already tried running obs as an administrator.

Personally it works fine for me as long as the device is currently active.

Hey, i was just wondering. Why is window capture not a good idea? I cant get video device capture to work, but if I just put the audio through an audio device and use window capture, it seems to work just fine.

And also Reinstalling the software didnt work, the configure options are still locked.

You can capture their program if you have no other choice, but I'm just not sure why that problem would be happening. I have the elgato and haven't particularly experienced any problem with it.

It's strange, I've only seen like one or two people having this specific issue. Is the AverMedia live gamer portable compatible with obs? I was thinking of swapping my Elgato for that possibly, but I really wanna use obs, so I wanna know if what i'm going to get works with it.
