Question / Help Cannot see browser. Cannot record. Just set up.

Hi

I set up OBS on a new computer. Somehow I had managed to get it to work on an older computer but I can't seem to remember how I did it. I just installed the software now and then clicked to add a source and I chose Window Capture (hoping this would then see my Chrome browser as the screen I want to capture.) If I choose the Source-Browser option, nothing at all happens. At least this way (Source - Window Capture) it thinks there is the browser, but it doesn't show it. It just shows the red rectangle around the area it would be recording. Nothing else shows. When I choose Source - Video Capture Device, it does detect my webcam.

If I click on the Start Recording button, I just get an error message saying "Starting the output failed. Please check log for details" and underneath that, "Note: If you are using the NVENC or AMD encoders, make sure your drivers are up to date." My new system as NVDIA GEFORCE not these others drivers so I don't understand this either.

Bottom line: I cannot see the browser to capture the video. Something is working, because the webcam shows. I cannot record anything anyway!

Can anyone help me to get started please?

First up, Windows 10 Gamemode is on, turn that off.

Second, in Chrome, go to settings, and look for "hardware acceleration" and turn that off too, then OBS should be able to see it.

Thanks for this. I tried both steps. Still did not change anything. Just shows a red rectangle with a black screen.

Marvelous! I'm not sure when it all clicked - but I tried all the suggestions and got the recording to work and it seems with koala's suggestion the display is being captured as well now! Thanks so much for your help - Zidakuh and koala!
