Question / Help Can you use a Canon 7D as your video capture device?

My apologies if this is the wrong section for this, but I figured it fell under the heading of 'general question'.

My fiance is a professional photographer and one of her cameras is a Canon 7D, which can film at 1080p, etc. Is it possible to set this up as a video capture device? I have a cheapy little web cam, and while I was planning on upgrading to a better one soon, if I can just use her 7D that would be preferred.

I don't know much about all this and any help would be appreciated. If this question doesn't belong here I'm very sorry, but if anyone could post here or PM me any info I would greatly appreciate it.

According to http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/canon-eos-crop-sensor-hd/484573-hdmi-capture-out-7d.html
that link it is possible to record directly from the HDMI port BUT:
You won't get HD quality: the image is letterboxed and pillarboxed (didn't know that that was a thing) to some underfined lower resolution,
additionally, if you hit the record button the output quality is dropped again.

So if the monitor image is good enough for you, then yes, go for it, otherwise, I'd say: go with a good webcam.
