Hi,

This thread follows up on and refines the issue I posted in another thread yestereday ("Loss of Keyboard Function with Game Capture").

I want to use Game Capture to record to my hard drive flights on X-Plane 10 flight simulator. The problem is, as soon as OBS is superimposed on X-Plane, X-Plane's keyboard functions cease to work. I assume what is happening is that OBS is taking over the keyboard. As soon as OBS is taken off the screen--either minimized or closed--X-Plane's keyboard functions return.

My first step was to delete the hot-key functions I had created for starting and stopping recording. (I don't need hot keys because I can start and stop the recording from OBS's on-screen buttons.) However, removing the hot keys did not solve the problem.

Is there a way to disable the keyboard functions in OBS so that they do not override those of the the program being recorded, in this case X-Plane?

If not, I'll need to start looking elsewhere for a video recording program.

Just downloaded the demo to give it a quick test and cannot reproduce your problem.
With obs recording I had no problem at all when pressing a button in game. (although I have no idea how to even start moving the plane around)

Thanks for the quick responses.

The problem may be my unfamiliarity with OBS. The only way I've been able to record X-Plane in the Game Capture mode is to have OBS open and on top of the window showing X-Plane. Is there another way to do it?

Below is a screen grab showing how I set it up. Of course, before recording, I stop the preview.

Yes, I'm working with one screen. Is there another way I should be doing it? Screen is different from monitor, I assume.

Hmm, what happens if you switch to Xplane after you started the recording in obs. So obs is in the background. Can you then use xplane normally? OBS should still capture it with gamecapture just fine.
I would recommend to just do a test recording then and check the video afterwards. Make sure you use a video player that can playback mp4 files. VLC media player is normally pretty good.

Jack, Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to run some tests and put together some info to post, but may not get to it today. Will be back.

Jack (and everyone else), I'm pleased to report that your suggestion works like a charm. I open and minimize X-Plane, open OBS, select Game Capture mode, minimize OBS, maximize X-Plane, click the hot key to start recording, and everything works perfectly. The recorded images are crystal clear and very smooth and the sound is great too.

FYI, below is a response from Jim, an OBS developer, whom I contacted by email when at the height of my frustration:

"OBS doesn't take over the keyboard. What sounds like what's going on
here is that the increased activity on your computer might be causing
some sort of interference or DPC issues with your keyboard more than
anything. There's no way it would actually be OBS' fault in this case,
and I've never heard of something happening before with a keyboard. OBS
especially doesn't do anything with the keyboard if there are no
hotkeys. It does absolutely nothing with the keyboard in that case. If
there are no hotkeys, then all keyboard-related stuff is completely off,
so it's someting else in that case, and although it happens while OBS is
active, I feel fairly safe to say it's very likely not actually OBS'
fault, at least directly. This sounds awfully like hardware issues, or
DPC issues."

Thanks again,
Bill
