Question / Help Camera not working in OBS Studio?

I have a LifeCam Studio camera and it will not work in OBS. It shows a grey screen when trying to interact with the Source:

I have tried changing resolution, FPS, etc.. and no effect. It will not appear in the grey area above. No other application is using the camera, and I can see the blue light go on and off when I change values, but no video feed comes through.

Any ideas?

I think this is a common issue. Same here and several friends have reported it too. It started like 3 or 4 months ago for me. I'll submit a log as well. Pretty annoying bug tbh.

I can see this problem as well specifically with Lifecam Studio. It's fine if you open OBS and the scene contains the cam but after that if you switch scenes and then switch back for instance it fails, there is a lot of this in the logs:

07:25:53.574: DShow: Run failed (0x800705AA): Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

No idea what's causing it however I have noticed that there seems to be very limited support on Windows 10 for the Microsoft webcams, previously you had some extra software but that doesn't appear to exist on Windows 10.

Tyr to unplug all other USB devices, any changes?

Got everything besides keyboard & mouse out, restarted OBS Studio.. no change. This is happening to BOTH my HD 3000 Microsoft Cam & Studio Microsoft cam.

I am on Windows 7 currently, and these two cameras work great under the regular OBS. I can close Studio, open regular OBS, and the cameras both work instantly. Something different with Studio for sure.... Any thoughts?

I'm also suddenly experiencing the same problem. My lifecam just wont show up in studio anymore. Maybe the problem lies in the recent windows update?

Edit: Fixed it by unplugging usb and reconnecting.

Unplugging only the camera itself?

As for me, it hasn't worked in any version I've had of OBS Studio in the last 3 months. Only one random time I saw the camera work, then it was gone the next time I opened it.

Try switching scenes with the same source on another scene with the "Deactivate when not used" checked in properties for both scene sources.

thoughts:
  1. Try keyboards&mouse USB ports (temporary stick them somewhere else) - if their color differ.
  2. Wait for better solution (developers don't like to resolve each others issues by patching - when one issue solved - you need another patch to deprecate previous patch; main goal is bugfixing own software). For example, when bug will be found it would be resolved.

Yeah i've been having the same issue. Basically all you can do right now as far as i've found is leave OBS studio running, then unplug the camera and replug it in. Then go into properties, deactivate, and reactivate. It'll kick back on.

I found that my Logitech Software for my C920 was taking over the camera before OBS was.
When the camera isn't on in OBS then open LWS and see if you can see it there.
That's how I figured it out.

I had similar trouble with a gray screen, and tried unplugging/restarting/checking for running software etc.
I did end up switching USB ports to 3.0, but what I finally did to get the webcam visible, (and this may not help much as I see from your screenshot you've already tried it somewhat(But perhaps it will help others)) : What helped was to change the resolution to custom and it worked with a few different values.

I was seeing the same issue on my laptop in Windows 10 until I ran OBS Studio with Administrator privileges and then specified an appropriate Custom resolution. After exiting and starting OBS with normal privileges, the camera works as expected.

I have the same issue, I opened up OBS Classic and it worked fine. Looks like it's a bug with OBS Studio. Hope it gets fixed soon.
