Question / Help Black Screens

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I've searched for a variety of different fixes for usingthe game capture to no effect. I am using a laptop with the dual-chip set get-up.

My specs:
GPU GeForce 635m
Intel i7-3630QM
15.89GB memory
Windows 8

I have set OBS to run off of the Nvidia GPU chipset already, and I have set it to record off of the Nvidia chipset in OBS as well. I also attempted monitor capture at one point as well, but ironically I got a white screen as soon as I switched to the game.

I'd be grateful for any advice, be it fixes or suggestions for other programs.

What game? Remember that game capture does not work with games that are directx 8 or earlier as well.

If you get a black screen if just means that OBS and the game are using different adapters. If you're unable to figure out how to do it exactly then running the game in windowed mode and using window capture with "compatibility mode" is typically the easiest (as per the sticky thread on laptop capturing)

Ok, so here's a log with this problem. I see that is notes the two adapters in the log; does that mean it is indeed trying to use the non performance GPU for recording, or is it simply acknowledging its presence in the system?

I have tried several games (just to make sure it wasn't just the one). Among them Skyrim, Rogue Legacy, Torchlight, KotOR II, Portal II.
All of the games were running off of the Nvidia adapter to my knowledge as well.

Black screen and laptop? viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5965

Those games should work. Sounds like the typical laptop adapter mismatch.

Remember, if your laptop is an optimus laptop, you do -not- want to select the adapter via the video settings, in fact, it needs to be the top adapter in video settings regardless of what that adapter may list as. Set that to the top one in video settings, and then use the nvidia control panel to set the OBS.exe file specifically to use the "performance" adapter
