Question / Help Black screen..

I know you all have heard of your typical 'black screen' problems. And it seems like an easy fix, but in my case I'm not so sure.
So I'm normally able to stream through OBS with no problems...well, not any major problems until today.
Under 'game capture' it no longer detects my Elgato Game capture HD.
I'll have to open up my elgato software separately (never had to in the past) and then it'll detect it, BUT I'll have a black screen.
I'll exit out of the elgato software & obs will go back to not detecting it.
On both 32 and 64 bit versions of the software this happens.
I installed a few plugins (CLR browser, Direct Show Audio and Video...for displaying well...videos)
Even after I installed these plugins, OBS worked just fine.
I actually only installed them on the 64 bit version.
So my question is...what's the problem?

Then troubleshoot the correct issue, which is that you're having trouble adding the Elgato properly as a video capture device. Were you adding it in the 32-bit version of OBS? It doesn't have 64-bit DirectShow driver so it won't work in the 64-bit version of OBS.

I probably shouldn't have left this out, but none of this happened until I updated to version

I'm not sure how much effort anyone will want to put into troubleshooting your ability to use a game capture source on the Elgato software. It's not how it's meant to be used with OBS.

Well, SapiensTV, I'm simply looking for an exact answer why this happened. I had been streaming for a few months using my elgato game capture software & only recently started using obs and fell in love with it. I did however, before this, had elgato running through video capture, not game capture. It's just odd that after this most recent update my devices no longer show up or work.
