So recently I updated my windows 10 laptop, and all of a sudden the obs studio is black now. I mainly use display capture and thats black. It was just working yesterday and now its not working and I tried all the steps to fix it. Is there anyone that could possibly help me fix this? And I even tried uninstalling then reinstalling the app.

THE REVENGE OF THE BLACK SCREEN! OH MY GOD!

Hello!

It happened already three times with me the same problem, being the third only this week and, this time, it was FATAL!

I use Windows 10 (64 bit) and updated it to the latest version (ACER i7, 7th generation and 8gb RAM).

I also care to have a Nvidia graphic card also with its drivers already updated to the latest version.

I use OBS Studio to record classes and it's instability is annoying, generating insecurity.

On the last both occasions that this problem happened, I fixed them using the informed methods on the blog, that means that I reconfigured the Nvidia graphic card and I ran the program as an admin.

Now, in a misterious and surprisingly way, THE BLACK SCREEN IS BACK!

And now, even utilizing the methods previously informed on the forum and on the wiki, the problem is not fixed and still remain, blocking the fullfilment of my classes that are already scheduled with all my students.

THE BLACK SCREEN is just frustrating!

For those who want to help me to fix this problem, you can access the link to the latest report that OBS Studio generated for me:

https://obsproject.com/logs/gqKv5AAoqdLAFU6N

I don't know if the problem is the result of the frequents updates of Windows 10 (Hey, Microsoft, give me a break!) or if it is up to other reasons which I do not have the power to manage.

On the last update of Windows 10, the Xbox games bar simply stopped working, generating the error that I attached at the end of this message.

Note: It is in portuguese because I'm brazilian, so here's the translation:

"You need a new app to open this link ms-gamingoverlay"

Also regarding the xbox games bar, I tried all the solutions given on the microsft original website, but without any success.

I don't know if the problem generated on the xbox games bar is related to the black screen of the OBS Studio.

So, I ask: who can help me to fix in a definitive way the black screen problem?

I thank all of the collaborators and developers on a efficient and quick answer, because my classes are just frozen now!

Provide a new obs log showing that you've either changed OBS' selected graphics processor or you've switched to window or game capture.

Provide a new obs log showing that you've either changed OBS' selected graphics processor or you've switched to window or game capture.

Hi, Harold!

I provided the modifications that you suggested to me, these ones:
https://obsproject.com/wiki/Laptop-Troubleshooting#configure-your-system-for-display-capture
https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/wiki/Laptop-GPU-Selection-Windows-10

However, none of them solved the black screen problem.

The log that you asked me to change is attached here:

https://obsproject.com/logs/YFnNZf3nuE9Xjsj2

The log represents the modification of the first link that you sent me (https://obsproject.com/wiki/Laptop-Troubleshooting#configure-your-system-for-display-capture)

Take a look at the pics below:

The 4th image reffers to the window capture.

However, in my classes I use the screen capture, which is different!

The black screen keeps happening on the screen capture (5th image), and not on the window.

Next to the images, I'm posting the log indicated on the link above.

Thank you, I'll wait for more help and instructions!

Having OBS set to run on the high performance graphics like you currently do, display capture is disabled.

OBS is still running on the Nvidia card. It needs to run on your Intel card, GPU 1, in order to perform display capture.

10:18:22.706: Adapter 1: Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500

If this cannot be successfully changed with the Nvidia control panel, you need to do it within Windows display settings.

Hello Harold and Narcogen

PROBLEM SOLVED!

You were right: OBS was running on the NVIDIA card and not on Adapter 1: Intel (R) HD Graphics.

It was my fault, because I did not correctly perform the settings reported by colleagues and listed in the Laptop GPU Selection Windows 10 topic (https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/wiki/Laptop-GPU-Selection-Windows-10).

Now OBS Studio is running perfectly and I can continue my classes.

I just have to thank my colleagues for their prompt and efficient help.

From Sao Paulo, Brazil, a huge hug to Harold and Narcogen.

I've confronted with the same problem long before just like you. Maybe you could turn off hardware acceleration on your web browser like Google Chrome or Firefox, or you can run OBS as administrator. These methods will work. Some people say OBS black issue is normal, but it could bring troubles really. Now I have both OBS and another screen recorder called Joyoshare Screen Recorder. The latter runs stable and can capture any on-screen videos and audios. The combination of these two tools brings a lot convenience for my work. New OBS user here, and I hope that my reply could be useful to you. Wish you all well.

I faced the exact same issue and it was hard to fix as mentioned solutions were only working for old windows 10 versions.
I made a little video explaining how to fix this on new Windows 10 versions.
It's in french but you can follow steps starting at 1minute 30 seconds here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK1nGeIoGNY
