Question / Help Black Screen with Game Capture and Mass Effect 1

Hello

I am having some trouble trying to use Game Capture with Mass Effect 1 on my custom desktop PC. I have followed the instructions for creating a scene and "Game Capture" source. When attempting to record however, I end up with a black screen (only the audio is captured).

I can use Window Capture to record footage just fine...but I would like to make use of the Game Capture source setting (especially since I would like to avoid recording the title bar on my game window).

Sorry if this issue has been posted before, but I feel that whatever is wrong may have to do with my custom-built PC...or some setting in OBS I overlooked. I would appreciate some help on this issue.

EDIT - I have reposted the log file to Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/RizqAE0G

Is it happening for other games? It finds the window, but it feels like there's something interfering with the capture because the capture fails to start up.

Yes, that is the case. I actually had a similar issue with Psychonauts. It records the audio, but the video is just a black screen. I haven't tried using OBS with games other than Psychonauts or Mass Effect 1 just yet, but here is the log file for my most recent Psychonauts recording attempt.

Okay, I definitely feel like there's interference from another program going on.. (Cue copy & paste: ) These could be other capture programs, game mods and graphics mods (sweetfx in particular), graphics card utilities like msi afterburner or the EVGA 'K boost' feature (I think it's called), or programs that put in custom in-game overlays for their program, such as teamspeak/mumble overlays, or razer synapse overlay

The only other recording program I use when OBS is turned on is Audacity, and that program was not active during my last two attempts in the log files I submitted. I do have Fraps and D3DGear installed, but those programs were not running when I was trying to use OBS.

Here are some of the programs I have installed (the ones that I see as most likely to impact OBS), although I can submit a more comprehensive list of my programs later.

Steam (only running when I am playing Psychonauts, not Mass Effect 1...steam in-game overlay is turned off when playing Psychonauts)
AVG Antivirus (always running, but I have tried disabling this program...OBS still captures the aforementioned black screen)
Advanced SystemCare
Origin
(not running when I play either of the above games, but there might still be discrete background processes...I'm not exactly well-versed on this matter)
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Audacity
(used for capturing and editing microphone audio...Audacity was closed before the OBS-recording attempts documented in the submitted log files)
Fraps (not running while OBS is open)
D3DGear (not running while OBS is open)

For now, I have set OBS to window capture mode (OBS is now set to only capture the inner window, and the games have been set to windowed mode). I would still like to get to the bottom of this however.

Whitelist the OBS directory in AVG, it has been causing problems for people recently. Triple-check programs like Fraps and D3DGear to ensure that they aren't running in the background, have no background processes in Task Manager, etc.

Actually no, you MUST uninstall D3Dgear. It doesn't have to be "not running", it must be completely uninstalled. It's garbage that will hook every single application on your computer even if not running, and you should toss it in the bin like litter.

Ahh, I suspected D3DGear might be to blame. Thanks for the info. I'll go ahead and whitelist the OBS directory in AVG and remove D3DGear.

EDIT: OBS Game Capture now works for both games, and I can crank out videos again. Thank you for all the help.
