Game capturing hasn't changed or anything except for one thing: there was a fix for the Windows 10 creator's update where it wouldn't capture with the high-performance capture method (and now it does). For people who aren't running the windows 10 creator's update, things will be completely unchanged.
Now, if you're on a laptop and are on windows 10 with the creator's update, it was probably using the slower capture method originally, which will capture despite what graphics card is running on, so you might get a black screen now and will have to refer to that thread on how to fix it due to how the faster capture method works -- though if you want it to capture the way it was capturing you can optionally turn on the "use multi-adapter compatibility mode" checkbox in its properties, which will activate the other capture method it was using.
The reason why the "fast" capture method can cause you to capture black screen on laptops is explained in that thread, as well as how to fix it. OBS and the game you're capturing must be running on the same GPU, that way it can capture it without having to move the captured frames off of the GPU. It makes the capture method much faster, but because laptops have two GPUs (one for power saving and one for high performance which uses more power), you have to make sure to configure your nvidia settings to make sure that programs are always running on the nvidia. Otherwise, the capture technique won't work correctly.
And unfortunately I'm currently unable to detect the nvidia settings, otherwise it'd automatically handle that situation. But it'd be for the best to ensure it uses the fast capture method anyway (and I'm sure you guys feel the same as well).
So basically, it's just due to how laptops are constructed. You just have to configure your nvidia settings on laptops for game capture.
(If you're having some other issue feel free to let me know, though it's probably best not to side-track this particular thread because I'm pretty sure that this is the problem the original poster is having)
