Question / Help Black Screen on Desktop When Recording Beyond Earth

This is a desktop with a single gtx 970 so its not an Optimus problem. When trying to record Civilization Beyond Earth all I get is a black screen. With window capture, I get a single, still image and with monitor capture I also get black. All of these have working audio. Game capture works with Civilization V so I don't understand why its not working with BE. I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers.

I have the exact same issue with my Radeon R9 200, so I doubt it's a problem with the video card. And this is with the most up to date drivers.

I can only capture the game correctly in windowed mode.

I have the same problem and i can't find any help anywhere. there has to be a reason why just this 1 game is giving such trouble

EDIT: From Testing i have done it seems the overwolf has the exact same problem. the only program so far that seems to record properly is Fraps. but that creates monsterously large file sizes (like 2.2 GB for a 45 second video)

Maybe an Issue with x264 encoding? sinse that seems the major difference between OBS and overwolf and Fraps.

Good News, I solved The Issue. I am a Moron.

It actually recorded just fine, The problem lay in Windows Media player. which for some reason chose to be my default player and chose to not play mp4 videos as described above.
