Hi there,

I have been having alot of trouble with these stupid black bars on my recordings. My monitor is 1920x1080 and so is my settings in OBS aswell as my in-game settings. I have checked stretch image to screen and the box where it says ignore aspect ratio. I have also tried without the aspect ratio box ticked. The black bars do not seem like they want to go away. I wouldn't mind black bars on the bottom and the top but on the sides irritate me. Here is a link to the picture I had taken http://i.imgur.com/FDuuZDH.jpg. Hope you can help!

Thank you!

Post your logfile. Also note that your start menu and the top of the window take up some space, but more than likely, something is off.

Do you still get the black bars when you watch the video in fullscreen?

Why is the image 1930x1028?

I do not get the black bars when watching the video in fullscreen. I'm not sure why the image is like that. I did crop it a bit so I don't know. I would post a log file but everything has been deleted because I started OBS up again.

There is a thing called scaling, and when a video is scaled down, the aspect ratio goes down as well. What I said before is valid, the top of the VLC window as well as your start menu is scaling down the video so you can see the very top and bottom of the video. if you hid your start menu the video would get bigger. you could even move the start menu to the left or right of the screen and would probably help keep out the black bars.

What you have isn't an OBS issue, it is a misunderstanding on your part of how scaling works.

Thank you for the help but I have another question. In the advanced settings, there is a bit where you can type in crf=X. I have mine at 15 at the moment. I was wondering If I could get it even lower because the lower you get the better the quality of the video. I have heard it takes alot of your cpu though. Here are my specs,
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 16.0 GB

I really need to see your logfile as you having wrong settings could greatly impact how far down you can take the crf

When I try uploading it, a message saying the upload failed due to a communication error with the server pops up.

crf might be to low at the moment but we can keep the quality with the sacrifice of size by changing the preset to superfast. this is a trick most people do to sustain higher resolution and frames for recordings and keep the quality
