Question / Help Bitrate Spikes - testmy.net and log in post.

Greetings everyone.
I started streaming games a few weeks ago and in the beginning it all went fine. That I thought.
After a while my bitrate started fluctuating like crazy. It literally spikes in between 3500 and 100.
The weird thing is, that sometimes I have no issues AT ALL. And than, after sometime in stream, the bitrate spikes are there again. My viewers told me that the stream seems to freeze every now and then, but they still hear audio.

I lowered my CBR from 3500 to 2000 but the bitrate spikes are still there. I lowered it to 1000, but the problem persists.
One day, i change the process priority from normal to High. It seemed to help. The bitrate was almost one flawless steady line. But a day later when I started streaming again, the bitrate spikes appeared again.

I wish to thank you all in advance for taking the time to help me and I hope we can resolve this problem.
Kind regards.

Speedtests are pretty irrelevant for troubleshooting connection issues.

Code:
10:24:30.726: Output 'adv_stream': Number of dropped frames due to insufficient bandwidth/connection stalls: 15813 (38.3%)

This line here in your log says that it's the connection having issues.

Use the Twitch Bandwidth Test to find the best Twitch server to stream to. You can also click the Share Result button to upload a screenshot to Imgur, which can then be copied and pasted here. Get TwitchTest from http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/tech-support/478845-twitchtest-twitch-bandwidth-tester

^ try that and share the results here. Set TCP Window to 64k, and Test Duration to medium.

Those results indicate that you shouldn't be having any issues at all.

Can you remove the opencl=true from your settings and try again?

I removed the opencl=true and it seems to be a stable, flawless line. I even changed the output resolution to 1080p instead of 720p and the bitrate to 3500 to test it. No spikes whatsoever for approx 10mins now.

Thanks alot for your time and help Fenrir. I will stream again sunday for a longer period of time and I hope the problem wont return. If so, I will post here again. If not, I will let you know aswell.

Thanks again! Peace.

Thanks for confirming. That setting has caused us nothing but problems. Make sure you don't follow any guides that tell you to use it in the future!

Greetings again.

Was testing the bitrate today again for some time. Everything went fine.
After some time I decide to test the stream ingame so I launch Steam. Guess what happened next?
The bitrate started fluctuating like crazy again. So I guess it's Steam causing this issue!
As soon as I closed Steam process, the bitrate is doing fine again. No spikes.
I checked my Steam for downloads but it wasn't downloading anything. I am going to need Steam to stream my games though. But as soon as I launch Steam, the bitrate spikes return!

You guys ever had this issue before? Any suggestions on a fix?

Thanks in advance and have a nice sunday!

Anyone? I am still experiencing the same issue.
Everything is just fine untill I boot Steam. That's when the bitrate spikes return.

Can you create a clean log and attempt to replicate the spikes, or grab a log from a session that had them?

That's very, very odd. Steam definitely does not have a history of causing these kinds of issues (at least, not when there's no active downloads). Let me see if I can dig anything up.

I checked with some of my friends. One of them, who recently got into streaming aswell, has the exact same issue. Not any problems with streaming non-Steam games like LoL for example.
But when he tries to stream a Steam game, he has the exact same issue.

Thanks alot Fenrir and I will keep an eye on this thread. I hope you find something!

Peace

Do you have any 3rd party network "optimizer" software from your motherboard manufacturer, eg MSI / Gigabyte LAN Optimizer or similar programs?

Hi, R1CH

Thanks for passing by.
I do not have any network optimizer software installed that I am aware of.
My motherboard is an ASUS MAXIMUS VIII RANGER. I have just installed the STRIX software along with it to control my fanspeed for the cooling. When I check my processes, I do not see anything that makes me think it's something like a network optimizing software.
