Question / Help Best OBS Compatible Capture Cards?

Hi all, I did ask this in the live chat but there were a lot of other questions and mine got somewhat lost, which is fine, I'm not in a hurry or anything, but I figured I'd just ask it here.

So I have a Roxio Game Capture HD Pro, which most of you probably know, doesn't work with OBS. Not only that though, most of the time it just doesn't work at all, so I need an alternative.

Ideally, I'd need something that could capture Xbox 360, Wii games (so component needs to be a possibility) and maybe even more retro consoles, and price is, unfortunately, an issue.

It was mentioned in the live chat, that I have USB 2.0 on my laptop, but 3.0 on my PC, and also the concept of an internal capture card was also brought up, but I just assumed that would be too expensive.

Are there any relatively inexpensive options out there for capturing these older consoles?

Thanks.

Well, we'll be trying to get roxio/etc working somewhat shortly now on the rewrite, so if you wanted you could wait longer, but it won't have deinterlacing at first either, which may be a problem depending on the device. I don't know if there are many good options for older consoles. xcapture-1 is probably the best bet I believe, but it's not all that inexpensive unfortunately.

If you are able to use your PC for streaming, and you would like both component and HDMI input, I can recommend the AVerMedia HD DVR PCI express capture card, available on Amazon here:

http://www.amazon.com/Avertv-Defini...qid=1402953480&sr=8-1&keywords=avermedia+c027

It's not too expensive, and it does everything from composite to HDMI, you can even use one of composite/S-Video and component/HDMI at the same time if needed. There are newer cards, but none that really offer any huge advantages compared to the price they ask for them. The card only does up to 1080i, but then again very few Xbox 360 games (or even current gen console games) render natively at 1080p.

The XCAPTURE-1 as Jim mentioned is of course pretty much the best solution available, though you have to import it from here: http://www.solarisjapan.com/xcapture-1-usb-3-0-hd-capture-unit/ And it is also rather expensive.

To be honest, most of the time the Roxio just flat out doesn't work at all, seemingly at random. It's just a faulty, poorly made product in general so even if it did work with OBS, it's no guarantee that it would actually just work when I needed to stream. The x-capture-1 looks good... but my bank account is some way away from affording one.

Looks like a decent answer to my problems! Thanks for the suggestion, these internal cards all sound very similar to each other, so it's good to have someone who knows the differences help me out. I think if I sell the Roxio, I should be able to afford one pretty much straight away :)
