Question / Help Beefy computer, bad quality streaming...HELP!

I've got all the ingredients to stream super high quality, however i'm not getting that. I haven't the slightest idea what's wrong, but I've exhausted all other means of fixing this.

I believe the settings in OBS are what's preventing me from optimizing my stream quality. I have tried troubleshooting myself, but alas, I'm still getting poor video quality.

I don't think I fully understand the ins and outs of OBS and its settings.

Is there anyone out there I can have a conversation with about this?

Those settings don't look bad...can you link to a video example of the bad video quality?

That actually doesn't look bad at all.

If your CPU can handle it, you could always try setting your CPU preset to a slower setting (that option can be found in the Advanced sub-menu), but be warned, as this is generally quite taxing on the CPU. A slower CPU preset allows for better motion tracking and all that jazz, so that's a way to get more quality out of your stream.

The other option to get higher quality is to increase your bitrate, but you shouldn't go above 3500 total bitrate (video + audio). Apparently Twitch doesn't like this very much. That is, unless you're a partner (if I recall correctly).

tbh

hes right the fonts look pretty ugly for some reason but the settings seem to be fine (maybe change the "scene buffering time" back to the latest default "700")
but that probably wont change that much

Hmm, not sure what you guys mean. Its totally normal for that bitrate at this resolution that small texts will not look as good as originally. The image is downscaled and the bitrate needed for this type of game is probably higher than I would recommend to use. And on youtube its also encoded twice, once by obs, once by youtube, which will probably not help the quality at all.
But in general, its the same problem every MMO/RPG/whatever with a small interface has.

If your computer is all that good, you won't need a resolution downscale. You might be able to stream in 1080p and all of the small text would be readable. But I believe twitch streams are not meant to be put in full screen, you are meant to be reading the chat and such.

but i heard you can't broadcast in 1080p on Twitch because they only allow partners to do so. Plus, some can't view 1080p videos due to the type of device or internet they are using.

First of all, your stream is fine, you don't even have to read this, but I've been streaming 1080p on twitch just fine. I just learned this on the OBS Live Chat, If you had a 720p recording at 3500 kbps that was 1GB in size a 1080p recording at the same length and bitrate would also be 1GB, meaning you would be transferring the same amount of data. The bitrate is what defines how big the file you have to stream over the internet is. If you choose to make your stream 1080p, don't spend too much time fussing with the settings if your computer simply can't handle it, you're not gonna loose viewers because the text is somewhat blurry.

I'm just looking to upload better quality videos to youtube. I dont' know what is keeping the resolution on text so poor, but I did try to increase the size of my UI to see if that help.

I really appreciate all the help and advice that was offered, from everyone. It was very kind of you to attempt to help me fix my problem.

I'll have to just keep troubleshooting, maybe eventually I'll get the high quality I"m looking for. Thx!

whoever told you that probably trolled you

the only thing twitch doesnt really like is bitrates above 3500 apparently

your cpu should be able to handle 1080p30 on default preset and a 3000 bitrate will probably be enough for wildstar as long as you dont spin the cam like a crazy maniac :P

the only downside is that you cut out on your viewers if you stream with that kind of an bitrate as a non partnered streamer

but since you want to have something to put on youtube i dont think this is a problem at all :P should be all good for yt footage
