ok i have never at this issue with recording before on battlefield or any game. since the latest updates, I have been completely unable to record battlefield due to its extreme lag. It causes very bad frames per second that progressively worse and they spike a lot. My CPU is a i7 quad core 4770k and my graphics card is an msi r7 radeon 260x I also have 16gb ripjaws 1866mhz ram. I know it's not much but i need a solution for my youtube channel as I normally could record comepltely fine and even having the preview open in OBS causes major lag. please help me! :)

1080p 30fps veryfast at 18,000 bitrate is too much for your CPU and BF4. Especially with CBR. I would suggest quicker using "superfast" or "ultrafast". Also, you have an i7-4790, not an i7-4770K.

the frame drops are less consistent and less severe but still very present, also I have been using obs for about 8 months and never had this problem even on a basic laptop but now this issue with my desktop?

If it's lagging and you're not overtaxing your CPU, then your GPU must be running at 99% and OBS needs some GPU power.

as far as power goes I have 750 w for my system and i dont overclock. What completely baffles me is that the one time i try recording after an update and this happens out of nowhere? I think i mentioned that i have had no issue using obs for quite some time on my desktop so why now? my pc is clean and normally i could record bf4 fine. my gpu is only an msi radeon 260x and i plan on getting another hdd for ssd for my pc when i upgrade my card to a gigabyte radeon 280.

I did not say anything about your system power. But if your settings have not changed and you updated OBS then try an older OBS version and see if it works.

ok so i got the update and now it works much better but still some odd issues with frame drops. not random frame drops but say i get a 9 frame drop for 90 frames when not recording, I will get a 15 frame drop from 75. Is that normal just due to the compression in the background? I have my own compression software so if I could turn off the compression while recording somehow that would be great

i got the update
using pretty bad settings it works, with the current version it would be bad no matter what settings

and the frame drop thing was say i get a 9 frame drop every time a certain particle effect occurs e.g. fire frag is thrown. and when its not happening i get about 90 frames per second. Then the minute I start recording i will get a drop to about 70 and say i went through the same fire frag throw that would normally cause i 9 frame drop when not recording will now cause a 15 frame drop while recording.

That's probably the CPU performance hit. Just even barely touching the CPU on that game kills performance. Remember also that the game was patched quite recently and it adjusted the CPU usage and performance, so performance is a lot higher than normal, but that kind of means it could drop further XD.
