Question / Help Basic sub-region settings

A first hello and many thanks for OBS,

no streaming, just saving on the disk. My main monitor has an resolution of 1920x1200 pixels. Because of my special requirements I must use "Monitor Capture" - I want to capture the window of an app + an dynamically created message box of another app placed on that main app.
When I set the sub-region accordingly (e. g. size 1280x1024, position 0/0) the resulting video is still 1920x1200 pixels in size (with black areas, visible as preview). Therefore I set the base resolution to 1280x1024 (Video settings). Now I get my video in the correct size. But I can't use the position (offset) then - must be 0/0.
Any additional hints/ideas/comments?

Many thanks and greetings

I'm not sure what you mean...the 0/0 offset is relative to your Monitor's resolution, not OBS's resolution, so just select the area you want to capture like normal.

My question was how I can record an area of an monitor so that the resulting video has the same size (as the area) without black parts.

Many thanks and greetings

If you set your OBS base resolution to 1280x1024, then make sure your subregion has that same aspect ratio (5:4).
