So i have me an Avermedia Live Gamer Portable. And i understand that it has onboard hardware encoder possibilities. Is it possible to use that with OBS in some way?

thanks!

No, the onboard encoder is only used to compress video before sending it to the computer over USB 2.0. If you are streaming via RECentral, you can then forward that encoded video directly to your destination, but otherwise, the video feed goes into the LGP Stream Engine, which has to be re-encoded again if you put it into OBS.

So there is no use of the H.264 encoder in a way i describe? And if i use RECentral to forward, i get to forward the shown video, and that quality is horrendous! And just to clear one thing.. Can i get a performance boost by using my Avermedia card as capture device at all?

You cannot use the AVerMedia encoder to encode with OBS, and a capture card alone will not ease any system load.
