Question / Help AverMedia ExtremeCap U3 vs Elgato HD60

I am currently using a dual PC setup and the live gamer hd.

I can only pass the video through to the second PC at 720p60fps or 1080p 30fps.

I would prefer if I could get the video to the second PC at 1080p 60fps, I have done this VIA RTMP and that works great but a capture card makes things much simpler and I see that these two new cards by Avermedia and Elgato claim they can do 1080p 60fps.

Has anyone here used one of these cards to pass through the video to a second PC at 1080p60fps and live streamed to twitch?

And if both are capable of it, what are your thoughts on which to choose?

Thanks in advance.

I have both of these in front of me right now and I can tell you that the Avermedia ExtremeCap U3 does not have HDMI pass-through at all. The Elgato HD60 does have a second HDMI port for pass-through. That being said, I would highly recommend you avoid the Elgato HD60 for these reasons:
  • The HD60 is only USB 2.0 and the U3 is USB 3.0
  • Elgato did not make a 64-bit driver for the HD60 so only the 32-bit version of OBS can be used with it whereas the U3 can be used with the 64-bit version of OBS
  • There are some known video delay issues with HD60 with OBS which are detailed in several other posts and I've experienced these personally in testing. Some suspect it is due to compression prior to transfer over slow USB.
  • I contacted Elgato tech support (asking about a 64-bit driver) and they told me that the HD60 does not support any 3rd party streaming software and that I should be using the shit software it comes with! (transcript below)

Daniel,

Thank you for contacting Elgato Systems.

We appreciate your question regarding the Elgato Game Capture HD60.

Unfortunately we cannot discuss future releases.

Also the Game Capture HD60 is not compatible with third party software, thus you can only use the Game Capture HD software with this capture card.

Please let us know if this helps or if more support is needed.

Because you only offer a 32-bit driver, 64-bit applications cannot see and communicate with the HD60. Will you be releasing a 64-bit driver anytime soon?
