Question / Help audio sources randomly stop

I've discovered the audio sources are randomly stopping, and I can't find consistent factors about the symptoms. First, my specs:

Intel Core i5 3550 @ 3300 MHz
MSI Z77A-G43 (MS-7758)
16GB Corsair Vengance
GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Onboard audio: Micro-Star International 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller; EVGA.COM GF110 High Definition Audio Controller
Headset: Logitech G930
Webcam: Logitech HD Webcam C525
OBS: v0.637b
OBS settings - Broadcast: No delay, closest server possible. Video: 1920x1080 downscaled by 2, bilinear filter & 24 FPS. Audio: Desktop-Logitech G930, mic is same, 200ms PTT delay. Advanced: Changed the scene buffer to 1500 on the off chance it will help. The rest is all default.

I've updated my drivers, and considering reinstalling OBS. The problem was first noticed when my viewers were watching me play Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. The problem is most noticeable in these games for some reason. But digging through my past broadcasts I've discovered it also happens in CSGO. It initially appeared to be an issue solely with the mic dropping out entirely, but now I'm also seeing the game sound drop in both games. It did not appear to drop during lengthy sessions of Defense Grid 2 or vanilla Binding of Issac. Restarting the stream works, but only for so long. Since the problem is so bad in the Far Cry 3 engine, it sometimes works a while, others the problem starts up shortly after restarting. I've done extensive Google searching to no avail, nothing seems to quite match my problem.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

I've also just discovered that whatever changes I've made today appear to have made Twitch Alerts stop displaying. No idea what's going on.

Research into the Twitch Alerts issue appears it might be on their end with Aero, but unsure. Still having audio cutting out...

Only problem I can see is:

  1. Warning -- DShowPlugin: Invalid audio device: name 'Microphone (Realtek High Defini', path '(null)'
  2. 16:14:58: DShowPlugin: No audio pin, result = 80004005
You seem to have set a non-existing device as audio device for your webcam.

Does this only occur while using OBS or does it happen even with OBS off?
To me, it sounds like your soundcard is having connection problems or maybe overheating stuff. Some kind of synchronisation problem.

First, thanks for responding!

Osiris: I use the Logitech mic as the source, can I just disable the webcam mic in the Sound properties to resolve that issue? I'm not sure where else to configure settings for the webcam mic. The Realtek drivers are still installed, along with the Logitech, and I believe there are THX drivers but I'm not sure if I ever installed those as I figured I don't need the additional overhead.

paddydj: No, only the output to the stream is affected. I'm not noticing significant concurrent lag in the video either, however I have been having issues with my upload speeds and connectivity due to sporadic poor connection to the local node. My provider is aware of the issue and has sent a field tech supervisor to deal with the issue, but troubleshooting effects are ongoing. I also stream a lot at night when the temps are cooler, and have reasonably good case flow and no overclocking. Additionally, when the audio comes back, as far as I've seen, it's sync'd correctly. It just seems to drop out randomly, and as stated above I don't know of any consistent symptoms; like I initially discovered the problem in Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon, but had never seen complaints before that point. The fact that they're the same engine led me to wonder if it was a CryEngine 3 problem, but I later discovered that the problem also exists in CSGO - but as far as I can tell did not happen in Defense Grid 2 or vanilla Binding of Issac.

This could be an upload problem, but I'm not aware if that's a thing...and I would assume video would drop out before audio. Thanks again for the help, if you have anything else I would love to hear it!

paddydj, I meant to be specific and say that I don't notice the drop in audio when playing, it's just in the stream. if my viewers hadn't mentioned it I might not have noticed for a while longer, esp since its sporadic.

checking my recent streams, my mic audio is still working, its the in game sound that isn't outputting to the stream. I checked dxdiag, OBS and the webcam driver and there's no settings about unassigned audio sources that I can see other than the audio source for the webcam in OBS. it was disabled, so Ive set that to my headset mic like the rest, but that doesnt make sense. really unsure where to go from here. what about global sources? i dont have the webcam setup there, just in my individual scenes. google didnt return much for DShowPlugin and it was all related to OBS, mostly to crashing.
