Question / Help Audio Question

I have a question and I'm not even sure if it's possible to do just using the OBS software.

I livestream of course, however, during my livestream the livestream captures the Game Audio, My Microphone, and also whatever music I'm listening to which is how i want it to be.

However, I also run a Youtube Channel for gaming and alot of times will want to cut clips from my livestream (which I also save the livestream locally so I have a seperate file already on my hard drive. However, obviously YouTube does not allow you to use commercial music and a lot of times will not allow monetizing of the video.

If there a way to have the local file being recorded not pic up certain audio that I don't want?

If not, is there a way other have found that work best for this? I have other screen capture programs including playclaw, shadowplay, etc. However, most of these don't allow you to have the webcam and everything in the video as I still wish to keep.

Thanks!

I am currently working on a text version of this video that will explain some example setups, but maybe the video helps you already :)

Hey Jack0r thanks for the reply. That's actually what I'm doing now. I'm using DXtory and Multi-Track Audio to create two seperate video files with the Dxtory one being the audio while using the video that OBS saves to the hard drive. I was just hoping there was a way to do it without having to stream, plus save two video files to my hard drives at the same time as obviously this puts quite a strain on the PC even with my high end machine haha.

Ah I see :) Well in the future its possible that we will be able to do everything with one instance of OBS. The rewrite that is currently ongoing will allow much more freedom when it comes to audio stuff and "multiple" outputs.

No problem, maybe you could assist me in one thing then to help make the process I'm currently using more feasible.
The issue I have with the current setup and the setup you mentioned is that I'm streaming league of legends and if I have the obs streaming and saving locally and then also save a video file with Dxtory with multiple audio streams, when the game switches from the lobby to the actually game screen the recording always stops and I have to start it every single game.

would be much easier if Dxtory would continue to record a video file the entire time instead of constantly stopping so I don' thave to figure out which file goes with what obs file and then sync audio etc...

You could instead of using dxtory, use a second OBS instance that for example only hears the game audio.
So you would have a final video with game sound, and one with everything mixed. But in that case you could not extract the music from voicecoms for example. Or you would have to record the voice comms as well and it would be mixed with the game sound in the second instance.

You sir are a genius and I am an idiot! I have no need for being able to actually edit all the different sounds in vegas, just needed one recording with the music and one without.

So using just two sets of OBS and having all sounds except the music on one for recording would work perfectly. Why I never thought of this...sigh..such a noob. :P

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me with all this, really appreciate the support. Means a lot that you go out of time to help!

Hey sir, have another question for ya, when I have two instances of OBS open, the program isn't capturing the game and webcame in both instances. One will have the game and webcam with overlay, etc the other will have the overlay and stuff but just black where the game should be and black where the webcam should be. Any ideas?

To use a webcam in two programs you will want to use a software like manycam or splitcam, these should work (maybe only with the 32bit version of obs) and allow you to use the webcam in both instances.
To capture a game two times its easiest to use gamecapture for one and window capture on the other. If your game NEEDS to run in fullscreen mode you could use dxtory to capture it and that can be added to OBS as a video capture device and should work two times.

Alright, thanks for the help again. I'm thinking it may be best to just stream without my music being heard in the stream lol. Most of my revenue comes from youtube anyways, would make sense to favor my stuff for youtube instead of the stream lol.

One last question. Just want to make sure my audio is setup correctly. If I use VAC I just need two lines setup for this correct, Line 1 for all my sounds, game sounds, windows sounds, Voice chat, etc and then Line 2 would have my music and I would have both output to my Headset but in OBS just select line one for sounds and still select my microphone for the microphone. I would have my microphone running through a line with this setup correct?

Again thanks for all the help and also, I have been looking at your site. Great stuff there!

Actually you can simplify it, use one Line to receive game sound/windows sound and voice chat.
Send the music directly to your Headset.
In OBS just use the Line for desktop sound and your microphone as normal for microphone/auxillary.
And finally set the Line (under recording in your windows sound settings) to use "Listen to" and in the dropdown select your Headset. So you hear everything :)
