Bug Report Audio "popping"

Status
Not open for further replies.
I've had this problem ever since I started using headsets that connect via optical to a mixer of some sort. Every time I try to stream I get constant audio popping noises where the sound cuts out. I've narrowed it down to this program and have confirmed that there's nothing wrong with either the headset or my optical jack on my motherboard. I would much prefer to use OBS over xsplit but these issues are making it impossible.

Have you tried the latest test version? Jim has been working on a new audio subsystem over there.

tried it, same problem. Also the motherboard I'm using is a crosshair IV formula. I have confirmed that it's this program, xsplit works fine and I don't have any audio problems other than when I try to play a game while streaming with OBS

I remember witnessing a debugging session with someone else who had a similar problem. Several things were tried, as much as even completely disabling all sound processing in OBS, and it would still produce popping in the headphones.

So I need to confirm one thing: you are talking about popping on your end, not on the stream and the viewers' end, correct?

The problem seems to be the combination of OBS and an optical connection. Plug something into a normal minijack port on your pc and it should work fine. The problem is not in the sound part of OBS apparently, so this is a tough one.
There's not much I can tell you. I don't know when this will be fixed, but a workaround for now would be not to use optical audio ports.

I just got this problem myself about half an hour ago... I narrowed it down to my Webcam, whenever i have my webcam on my stream my music starts popping on my USB Logitech G35 headset, people watching stream does not pick this up, could this be the cause ?

And im using the latest Experimental version

I think I've recently been having this issue as well. It can be heard about halfway through this highlight.

Is this the same problem you guys have been having too? I'm using the latest test build (0.48.014b).

Yup, this is the same exact issue I'm having with the 0.48.014b experimental test build. Thanks for pointing it out.

You guys need to post test build issues to the appropriate test build thread if possible. It's very important to do so if possible otherwise I may not know about the problem right away.

Also, try test 16, I fixed a few more issues related to mic capture and such. 15 I revamped the audio subsystem -again-, so I'd like to know if it works. If you continue to have issues make sure to post it on the test build thread and let me know ASAP

This problem is caused by running your webcam resolution at 1920x1080. Reduce it to 720 and your popping sound will completely disappear. OBS I'd suggest finding a fix for this in a swift manner. i know many people who have this same issue! also, made an account to solve this problem. best of luck.
