Audio Crackles Only When Recording FL Studio - Urgent

Hey! Thanks for reading my post, I'm in desperate need of help.

Whenever I record FL Studio using OBS (or Audacity...), the audio is getting crackly / distorted for a couple of seconds occasionally.

examples at around 1:33, 3:04, 9:27... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DgzjMPSZoi7WiRUBQrcYjqaHztL2QZsq/view?usp=sharing

Mind you this is already trimmed, in reality it's even worse.

Here is my context:

I am making Youtube videos on music production and I use FL Studio in order to record my screen, audio and mic (https://www.youtube.com/@sgbeatztv)

I've got a proper PC setup with a bunch of headroom on the CPU and GPU. My audio is run by the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 Gen. 4.

For the longest time I'Ve used Ableton Live (a DAW, basically the program you use to make music on a PC if you're not familiar) and never had any issue with my screen recording.

A couple weeks ago I've bought FL Studio (another DAW, more popular in my target audience on Youtube, wich is why I've got it in the first place) and also didn't have any issues.

That was until about one week ago when suddenly there were sporadic crackles in my recording, both in the mic and system audio track

Now I've tried about everything I could in order to get rid of these cracks:

- Check my OBS audio settings
- Check my FL Audio settings
- Match / try different Sample Rate
- Test without FL Studio open
- Test different drivers (impossible lol, more on that later)
- Reinstalling both softwares
- Updating drivers
- Disabling exclusive acess to my audio interface
- Increase audio buffers
...
NOTHING MADE A DIFFERENCE. I thought I had the issue fixed multiple times, re recorded the video 4!!!! times and ended up with a f*d recording every time lol.

This is what I found out:

- It's not realted to OBS (if FL Studio is closed the recording is working just fine)
- It's not realted to the sound input / ouput, the general recording is fine (and the output I'm hearing too)
- It's not related to a DAW / ASIO driver in general (recording Ableton with OBS with exactly the same audio setup (Focusrite USB Asio Driver) is completely fine)
- It's NOT because of a CPU overload. My system rarly goes over 50% usage even when recoring 4k 60fps and my DAW running in every meter
- It must be something with FL Studio and the way it handles the drivers, or possibly OBS

ChatGPT suggested that the issue is somewhere in the way OBS runs my ASIO inputs through Windows WASAPI sound to record it. Basically a desync between both audio buffers for a short amount of time, that leads to the crackling.

That's just a theory. Unfortunately I can't use ASIO for OBS to record directly into OBS because FL Studio needs the ASIO driver and I also can't not use an ASIO driver because than the latency is way to high to make proper music on camera.

If you have literally any idea why this could be and especially how to fix it I'm super grateful!! #

If you need more details on my system specs I'm happy to provide them.

Thanks!
