Audio chopping and distorted using Razer Ripsaw

Ever since the last Windows update I installed the audio from my Razer Ripsaw capture card has been choppy and distorted. In the video I recorded the distortion has disappeared but the chopping is still there. I have tried swapping out all cables but those do not seem to be the issue. My capture card driver does not have any settings so I was not able to change anything there. I tried deleting and reinstalling the driver but the problem persisted and also tried removing the Windows update to no avail. Does anyone here have a clue what's causing it?

We are having similar audio distortion issues with our Razer Ripsaws since the big Windows 10 update from last month (August 2020). We had to go back two restore points to fix the problem. I'm not sure why Microsoft is breaking things like this and I would bet Microsoft isn't going to fix it. I have 10 laptops with two Ripsaws each being used for live production daily so we have turned off the Windows Update service just to keep them working. It's a serious problem that has ruined several of our live productions and wasted days of my time so far. I'm going to contact Razer with this info as well, although I suspect they have already heard...

Thanks for the reply,
So it's a really troublesome problem to deal with... That's terribly inconvenient. Could you keep me up to date on Razer's response or have any suggestions on where I can keep track of any solutions?
Cheers!

Hi Guys,

Created an account just to respond. I have the same issue on 2 pc's and 2 Ripsaw devices. After asking for help on reddit and eventually getting a ticket submitted I finally got a response from support (after about a month). Here is the response, great news for us:

We would like to inform you that your case has been successfully replicated by our team. Please look forward to an upcoming Windows update to likely resolve the issue. We currently have no ETA on when the fix will be rolled out, however, we acknowledge that the issue is indeed present and was also reported on other video capture cards.

We will go ahead and close your case. We are here for you should you need us, simply reply back to this email and the case will reopen. However, should we not hear back from you, the case will remain closed.

That's some really good news! I've been getting so upset not being able to stream for my friends the last couple months. Thank you so much for the update on your situation!

Hi again! I may of found a work around, testing at the moment but will update when I have more info.

Razer sells a software called THX Spatial Audio, installing this seems to fix the distortion. The problem is it costs $20 (which Razer should give out for free as we have had broken capture cards for at least 2 months now, but thats another story), luckily they do offer a 15 day free trial, which did instantly fix the problem. I have disabled auto start and closed out of all the spatial sound software and it is still fixed. I will have to wait 15 days for the trial to expire and see if it goes back to the distorted audio, in the meantime for those looking for a quick fix (or they maybe want to just pay the $20 or try and fight with Razer to get it free) here is the link: https://www.razer.com/p/RZ11-13000-0001

Hey there,
I just tried the software as well and to my surprise it did actually solve the issue for me too!
I'm going to wait out the 15 days as well, because really can't justify myself to spend $20 on something that should've been included with the capture card or given out for free to fix the issue. Thank you so much for the recommendation though! I'm going to try streaming for my friends soon to see if that works now.

I am now past the 15 day trial, I have not opened the software since initial install (disabled auto start and closed the running process) and to my surprise it still works just fine. It is not the best solution as it should just work without having to install another razer software but it works.

I want to post a reply to this, i know its a year old, but i had this issue myself recently and only by chance and circumstance (other unrelated events with my pc that happened in the past year) did i figure out what the problem was.

To expand on that, i'll give you a lil bit of my pc history over the last one/two years; I have too many things plugged in and my pc is not the youngest pc out there. I'd notice that sometimes my mouse or my keyboard wouldnt light up as bright, sometimes the keyboard lights went out, sometimes my drawing tablet would lag out on me, the pen would stop responding on occassion etc. I figured out after a while that the problem was a mix of different things: Old usb ports were not giving enough power to my light up keyboard, and the computer was running low on power (maybe due to an old pcu) and so i went out and bought a powered usb strip, which solved ALL my computer problems all at once. However, the strip itself does consume about a devices worth of power, when connected to the computer, even tho it has its own power, the computer for some reason still give it at least 1 devices worth of power draw, which meant that i could only plug about 2 other light-up devices into my computer (seperate from the usb strip) before all my problems came back again. I learned over time that i had to be careful when i had so many usb devices - wireless light up surround headset, light up wireless charging keybaord, wireless mouse, standalone desktop mic, cellphone charging pad, 15.6" drawing tablet etc. I had to put the big power draws on the strip and keep just a few on the computer itself.

Anyway, back to present time. I had this problem with my brand new ripsaw HD card for like 3 days now, trying everything i could think of to fix it and it wasn't until i remembered the power issue that i promptly facepalmed and proceeded to move a few things to the strip, my new mic and headset, a fancy monitor light, and then, once my pc was FREE OF ALL USB devices and had plenty of power, i put my razer ripsaw hd back in..... the sound was crystal clear.

Although this may not be the issue for some of you, i would implore you to try to disconnect as many things as possible, put your razer ripsaw hd in all by itself (or as minimally as you can) and see if that fixes your issue. The problem could be that its just not drawing enough power to properly process the audio at the correct rate. The ripsaw hd will still work with less-than-ideal power, but it fudges up your audio this way. Also i'd recommend that you have the ripsaw directly in your computer (not in a usb strip) and relegate your other devices to a strip, if you have one installed.

Hope this helps!
