Question / Help Asking for Advice on Dual PC streaming.

Hello!

I'am currently using a single PC configuration for streaming with NVIDIA Shadowplay on twitch.tv witch is not so bad.
What I would like to do now is to switch to OBS software to stream with more functionality using a dual PC configuration.

The thing is I own an "old" PC setup but i have no idea if it could handle a decent 1080p at 30fps broadcasting on games such as HOTS, CS:GO or even Rocket league.

What kind of performances should I expect from the CPU?

Would you have the knowledge and kindness to give me this information? Before i invest any further in a video acquisition card, screen...

Here are the specifications of the computer I intend to use as streaming PC:

INTEL i5 750 @ 3.8Ghz
ASUS Sabtertooth Motherboard
G.SKILL 8 GB RAM
AMD HD5870 Videocard
SSD, etc, etc...

By the way do you have any acquisition card to recommend? Maybe something that would support the CPU in encoding?

Thank you so much in advance!

An i5 is generally going to top out around 720p@30fps. However, x264 CPU-based encoding is going to use significantly higher-quality encoding than the (extremely poor) quality offered by NVENC/Shadowplay.

Capture cards do not offload any work from the CPU, when it comes to encoding. AverMedia uses low-grade hardware encoders, but OBS can't use those (you're stuck with poor quality again, and using their rather simplistic software on top of it).

Unless you are Partnered, you will not have the realistic bitrate available to run 1080p anyway. Possibly watchable with a low-motion game like HotS or LoL, but any first-person shooter or third-person game with lots of full screen camera rotation (rocket league) is going to need a very large amount of bitrate to look passable at higher resolutions.

Really, my advice would be to see about tailoring the settings on your current single-PC setup, and ditch NVENC if at all possible.

Thank you very much for your reply! Ok, i'am currently making some test with my single PC configuration on OBS but i'am really new to all this... I have to say i don't get any results to my satisfaction...

Here is the setup i use:

Core i5 4690K @ 3.5Ghz
8 GB RAM
GTX 970

What settings would you recommend?

Your system should easily be able to handle a 720p@30fps stream, with 2000kbps (assuming your connection is capable and stable). You really aren't going to get much of an improvement from doing a 2-PC setup with that i5-750... and might see lower quality in fact, along with the hassles inherent with a 2PC setup.

It's not going to look perfect, but 720p@30fps, 2000kbps is the best tradeoff point available for non-partnered streamers, between resolution, smoothness, and image fidelity.
