So Arma 3 is a game that I'm having issue with right now. I think Arma 2 has the issue too but I haven't played that game in a while.

I have read around and it looks like it may be a battle eye issue.

I found two fixes and have tried them both out.

Fix 1) C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye\BEService.exe
Under security policy check deny all for administration and current logged in user.

Fix 2) Start recorded as soon as Arma 3 loads. Before MP.

Fix #1 did nothing. #2 Let me record in the main menu, but as soon as the game started up the recording froze.

I have been lucky to record at times, but it isn't reliable at all.

What is the issue?
What is the trick?

I have tried Game, Window and Monitor Capture.

Running v0.554b 64bit, Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit, GTX 680

This is my main profile.

Does launching OBS as admin help at all? I remember there used to be a similar problem with dayz, which was almost the same engine I believe, but it's usually fixed by doing that.

If you have a pastebin account they are accessible.

I just made them public, try now.

Thanks

BUMP!

Been using the Avermedia LGP for a while, but that device ended up being a POS.

Went back to OBS and having the same issue!

I even updated to the latest beta Nvidia drivers released today and the latest test build of OBS. Had also tried the stable versions of both Nvidia/OBS with the same result.

Funny thing is if I uninstall OBS and removed the APP Data/Roaming profiles I get a flicker of the game before it goes black.

Monitor capture seems okay, game capture does not work.

Is Game Capture supported by Arma 3?

Have you tried using the hotkey method to capture the game? It doesn't look like any of those logs have an instance where the game capture source actually attempts to hook the game.

Yeah I tried a hotkey and that didn't work.

For other games as long as I have the game selected as the only source it never fails to capture it. Only Arma 3 do I have this issue.

If I do monitor capture and full screen the game it captures only the task bar. In preview window mode I see the entire desktop and game perfectly.

I have this exact same issue. It should be noted that in the past when Arma 3 was in Alpha it worked fine with OBS. Not sure what has changed since then, but it is very evident it doesn't work anymore.

Hi there. I have this same issue with the same symptoms and since the previous guy decided to stop replying for whatever reason I figure that I should pick up where he/she left off.

  • Running OBS as an Administrator does not affect the symptoms (i.e. black screen while trying to capture Arma 3)
  • Desktop capture (read: Monitor Capture) works fine
  • When changing to Windowed Mode in Arma 3, the Window Capture works fine when choosing the Arma 3 window to capture (and can be considered a workaround at least for me... but Game Capture still gives a black screen)
  • I have already tried doing it via hotkey both in the game and not in the game.
  • Whether I preview the stream or actually start the stream does not seem to affect the symptoms at all.
  • OBS version is the latest as of this post (see code box below)
  • Arma 3 version is the latest as of this post (I don't know where to check it, so I'm hoping it's not really that relevant)

Here is a demonstration .log file using the scenes.xconfig, which can be found below this next code block (please note that I have already checked with the advice it gives via the Analyze button and have already made the NVIDIA control panel changes -- as for the quality thing, that was an intentional, temporary change to try and see if it might do anything to solve the issue):

-- this broke the post character limit, so I have to pastebin it --

Here is my scenes.xconfig file to demonstrate, where "window capture" works due to the arma window being selected, but "game capture" doesn't work: http://pastebin.com/NtAwmh6T

I actually bolded in the previous post that I had already read and applied the changes recommended by that very same page:

(please note that I have already checked with the advice it gives via the Analyze button and have already made the NVIDIA control panel changes -- as for the quality thing, that was an intentional, temporary change to try and see if it might do anything to solve the issue):

Here's a screenshot to demonstrate:

The Global Tab is equivalent, except it's for the NVIDIA gpu processor in general and doesn't specify the OBS .exe itself.

Ultimately, though, I paid the 3600JPY for Dxtory and it works in general for me now without any problem. So the problem isn't as important for me anymore... but it still does exist. I just found a way around it for now, I suppose.

The only reason why I responded that way was because I saw that it was using the intel in your log file in every session, I admit I didn't read the entire post, I sometimes unintentionally gloss over posts after reading the log files first and then respond thinking I have the answer.
