Question / Help Any settings help is appreciated

hey guys, looking for optimal settings for my new PC in regards to obs streaming to twitch.

i7 4790k
R9 390X
Gigabyte z97x Gaming 5
8GB DDR3. (Would I see any gain from 16GB?)
650W PSU
Dual monitor setup (144hz / 75hz)
128GB SSD
500GB HDD
1920x1080 monitor res (in-game as well on all games as well)
6.70 upload
60 download

Thanks guys!

Thanks! I read all that though and it's pretty basic, I've been streaming for a bit now, but I got this new PC and would like to optimize my stream. What adjustments could I make to make my in-game fps run smoother/stable whilst not taking away from stream quality?

Always post a logfile so we can get a baseline of your current settings.

Would I be better off using VCE or x264 with my build?

I updated through the client and now if I start my VCE version it doesn't offer VCE anymore? So I guess x264 it is? lol

I think for streaming x264 is better quality than VCE. Not sure on the latest AMD cards though, you might check the VCE thread for more info.

Nevermind - I re-downloaded it as the updated version..so now I have both.

Do I need to make another logfile now?
x264 for streaming if you have the CPU horsepower, which you do. VCE is if you want to use your CPU for a CPU heavy game and use VCE for high quality local recording or something of the like.

Well is there anything on the logfile that sticks out?
Yeah, streaming at 1080p is going to cause issues with the amount of bitreate needed so we recommende 720p most of the time. second, your GOP and IDR should be 2xfps not 4x fps. other than that, you should try x264 with the normal build and see how that goes. maybe 720@30 2000bitrate or 720@60 3000 at minimums. both of those you should be able to drop your preset a little for higher quality stream but I want to see a logfile from the main build.

I didn't realize I was streaming at 1080p?? lol. My video is set to downscale 1.50 to 720? Does my VCE change that? I didn't really mess with anything..just set it to quality.

Will do a logfile of the x264

Oohh, see these are things I didn't even realize lol (I was using the VCE version and didn't know). Okay, so your recommendations are:

Use main build currently @ .655b
Fast or Medium (Preset)

And what do you mean duplicate frames? Do I have to check the log to see that or what? And I am in fact on Windows 10.

He means this line right here:

16:37:39: Total frames encoded: 232324, total frames duplicated: 42 (0.02%)

Keep it under 1%. The way you had it you weren't even close to 1%, so you can use a lot more CPU (if you want) and still be fine.
