Question / Help Any difference in quality with Res Downscale vs Custom Res?

Is/What is the difference if i play at 1920x1080 and downscale it to 1280x720 with Lanczos filter

vs

Setting my custom resolution to 1280x720 in OBS
 
Downscaling should always provide slightly better quality, but the difference is quite minimal.
