Question / Help A little confused about resolution broadcasting on twitch

In the OBS video settings the two options are base resolution and also downscale resolution.

My base resolution is 1920x1080
If I wanted to broadcast in 1080x720, would set my base (custom) resolution to 1080x720 and NOT downscale?
Or do I leave my base resolution the same at 1920x1080 and downscale to 1080x720?

Which would be best to stream in 1080x720?

I don't really understand why there is a downscale option when I can just set my base streaming resolution to the streaming resolution I want.
Can someone school me on the difference?

It's 1280x720 for the proper resolution for what you're describing, and you'd want to go with the downscale.

Whoops, sorry.. meant 1280x720 :)
Ok so stick with my base resolution of 1920x1080 and use the downscale?

WHy is it I can't just change my base to the 1280x720 and not downscale? Sorry, just curious

It gives you less room to work with, and if you've already set up your scene with 1920x1080, it can screw with the positioning of everything.
