Question / Help 99% cpu usage

Hi,

I've started streaming Dark Souls 2 and bought a new cpu because my last one was nearly catching fire trying to play and stream it at the same time.

I bought AMd FX-8350 and heard that t is a pretty decent cpu but when I play and stream, OBS and DS2 use 99% of my cpu usage. I there any settings you could suggest I use to stream it?

Much Love,

Hi,

The file was too large so I had to upload it.

dont even try medium preset on that cpu

it probably cant even handle fast properly and theres a huge increase of cpu usage between fast and medium.

downscale even further to 1.5 (1280x720) and use veryfast preset

A stock 8320 can handle fast preset just fine and dandy actually, however you wont notice any difference in quality. I usually go with the faster preset, it produce far less blocks compared to veryfast. FX-8350 is a beast of a processor, 8 core deluxe for super smooth and fast encoding.

A misconception due to marketing I assume, it's a quad core with hyperthreading. It's certainly decent if you're on a budget and can avoid the rather common heat issues people have with it while streaming.

It should be a fine processor, though lowering the preset will ask for trouble despite what processor you're on, especially at a higher HD resolution.

It's an 8 core with 4 FPUs. Still doesn't make it a quad core lol. Also mine tops out at 47c when running Prime95 for hours. People should get some proper cooling above all else, but I guess that's asking too much these days.

It also has to run a game while doing that encoding. Not all games are made alike, not all people playing alike games run the games at the same settings. Experiment to find out which preset you can run while getting less than 1% duplicated frames. It won't be Medium preset. Chances are it'll be Faster like vbdkv said. But you, the OP, will have to determine it for yourself experimentally. The setting you need to change is the preset.
