Question / Help 720 vs 1080 for Twitch streaming

Hi, I just did some tests on a 720p, 3.5K, 30fps streaming preset. After switching it to 1080p, leaving everything else as is, I noticed a) the file size is the same, b) the upload bandwidth used is the same, and c) that the quality is much better.

I may be stupid but after that I see no reason to continue streaming at 720p if 1080p takes the same bandwidth.

Am I right?

Thanks

It depends on what you're streaming. If what you're streaming is high motion, you probably will notice a difference in terms of pixellation of the overall video. However, if it's not, then 1080p will end up being okay most likely, the bitrate being just sufficient enough for the specific content you're streaming (at that FPS)

well you stated the obvious. if you limit the bitrate how on earth should the bandwidth usage change?

if you would have thought about it as first instead of posting a thread you would have found the answer.

3500 bitrate stays 3500 bitrate if you dont change it. the resolution doesnt matter the only thing changing is the way the quality decreases under picture movement if you compare 720p to 1080p if you have barely any heavy fullscreen movement then 1080p looks prefectly crisp and sharp compared to the little blurry lines when using 720p but still the file size and everything else stays the same since you limited it to 3500 bitrate the only real change is the fact that your cpu need a bit more usage to encode

For high motion games such as shooters, racing games etc. I always go with 720p @ 60fps. It just looks superior in every way.
Low motion such as point & click adventure games I usually settle for 1080p @ 30fps but at almost half the bandwidth. It still looks incredible though with zero blocks.

So it really depends on the game you're streaming.
