Question / Help 7 seconds of blackness

I've been trying to record for my youtube channel but when I stop the recording and view it in movie maker I just get 7 seconds of blackness every time. D: help?

Are you adding sources to your scene? Does the preview look OK? If so, try playing it back in VLC, maybe you don't have the right codecs for movie maker to use it.

The preview is fine and I have a monitor capture for a scene...

Can you play back the video with VLC?

There's no VLC option but neither mp4 or FLV work.

VLC is a media player. You have to download and install it.

But it worked before which is weird and can you put vlc into movie maker?

Again, VLC is a media player, not a format/container type like FLV or MP4. Download VLC and see if it will play back your existing videos properly.

I have downloaded VLC and it now plays back when I click on it but it still has seven seconds of nothing when I put it into Movie Maker (thanks for the help so far)
