Question / Help 64 Bit OBS Question

I'm on an older install. In my case;
64-bit: "C:\Program Files (x86)\OBS\64bit\OBS.exe"
32-bit: "C:\Program Files (x86)\OBS\OBS.exe"

I believe the new installer moved the 64-bit to "C:\Program Files\OBS\OBS.exe"

No point in renaming the exe to OBS64.exe, that's what the separation of Program Files and Program Files (x86) is for.

But you mentioned that the 64bit is in C:\Program Files\OBS\OBS.exe. In your second sentence above you are mentioning that it's in the Program Files (x86) folder.

I'm confused again
 
Again. New installs have the 64-bit in C:\Program Files\OBS\OBS.exe, while the 32-bit is in C:\Program Files(x86)\OBS\OBS.exe

My install is a legacy version where everything was installed to the same place, and 64-bit was in a subdirectory from there. They stopped doing that a while ago.
 
Yes, but you probably don't want to. The files don't take up much space, and if you need the 32-bit for some reason you'll have shot yourself in the foot. It's best to just leave it on hand. I believe it'll reinstall them anyway when you upgrade to a new version when one is released.

I was indeed using the 32bit version on my 64bit PC.

I opened up the 64bit OBS and streamed yesterday with MUCH better results. Not sure if this is a direct correlation to the 32bit vs64bit OBS, but my in game frame rates went up from my old average of 35 to 45 (all other settings same).

Yesterdays stream ran near flawless as apposed to previous times when using the 32bit OBS.

There's a few reasons why 64bit might be giving you better results (in case you're curious):

1. 32bit only gets access to at most 4GB of RAM, and sometimes those 4GB are shared between multiple 32bit programs (or so I've heard), meaning OBS won't even get the full 4GB. If your game is 32bit this might be the reason why old OBS was making it lag.

2. 32bit programs run in a very light emulator when executed on 64bit. It's so light that it hardly deserved being called an emulator, but it's the reason why 32bit programs actually run better on the same machine with an equivalent 32bit OS installed than with a 64bit OS. 32bit just isn't "native" on 64bit. (The 64bit version on 64bit OS still runs better than the 32bit one on a 32bit OS of course, since 64bit is just better)
